This was rich and time consuming but the flavor is great and the recipe is simple.

As a native Mainer, this is not typically New England( too much garlic It's more labor intense than the TV show would have one believe and certainly not for caloire conscious. But, the flavor is absolutely outstanding and a perfect start for an elegant seafood dinner.

I'm glad I did this recipe because I had never made clam chowder before and I consider this another achievement in my learning how to cook better. But it was a lot of work--about 1.5 hours of continuous multitasking. The recipe says to cook the potatoes for 7 minutes, but it took me closer to 15. The soup is rich, rich, rich (2 cups of heavy cream, lots of potatoes, lots of butter and olive oil, so it's definitely not for light and healthy dinners. But it will definitely impress the guests. The result was very good, but I've had better at good seafood restaurants. (I usually reserve 5-stars for recipes that are as good as restaurants. Considering I used fresh clams, I was surprised that the clams still came out a little tough. Considering all the effort it takes, the fact that it's very rich and caloric, and the fact that I can go and buy take-out chowder that is as good, I probably won't make this soup very often.

I have been waiting to make a NE Clam Chowder and am happy i waited to make this recipe. The clam broth was delicous and easy. After examing other recipes for chowder this broth seems to have a bit more flavor with the wine. Overall my family loved it and we are originally from new england.
