I followed the recipe exactly.....just the zest and juice from one orange. There was nowhere near enough fluid to cook the TWO bags of cranberries. I added more orange juice. It was still so tart it was inedible. I don't have a clue what recipe the others who are praising it used, but it surely was not the one here!!!

I am a canned cranberry girl.. I don't think i've ever had home-made stuff.. but I won't be going back anytime soon!! This was a great recipe.. sooo easy too! I used the amound of sugar that it called for.. although I did end up using a tablespoon or two extra, I also used 2 cinnamon sticks (and the zest + juice of the whole orange.. I might cut back a little on the orange next time though This was AMAZING right off the stove when it was nice and warm. I let it cool for a few hours in the fridge before serving. I actually preffered it warm! The tartness of the cranberrys came out a lot more while cold I think.. but it was a nice complement to the turkey and all the sweet things I had on my plate. I know some people said they had to add waaay more sugar.. I might of added a little more, but I think it was a perfect complement. Definatly worth trying.. and you can always have a can handy just in case : Thanks Tyler!!

I never made homemade before, this was perfect. perfect taste of bitter and sweetness. I used 2 12 oz bags of cranberries but kept everything else the same . Cooked it with the cinnamon stick. I added some brown sugar (used the rest of my white sugar for this recipe on top when it was done mixed it up lightly and it was ooooh so good ! You can just add more sugar to sweeten it up a bit if it is too tart. I also did not put a lot of orange zest in. The orange zest I did put in I made sure was just the orange part, the white part
(underneath is where the bitterness comes in even more. I also did not do the entire orange. This will be the only cranberry sauce I make from now on.

I tried this recipe the other day and it turned out really bitter and mostly inedible, but then I read that you should pick over your cranberries and only pick out the best ones, plus cooking time is really important - you should only cook them until just after they burst.
So I made it again, and it turned out a lot better. But I didn't think my guests would appreciate the skins - they are the most bitter part and have a weird texture.
SO...I made it again, this time cooking the ingredients without the sugar, pushing the mixture though a sieve, then putting it back onto the stove, adding sugar and tasting until it tasted right, then refrigerating.
It turned out the same jelly consistency as in the can (surprised me, and has a wonderful flavor and texture.
I just don't know if it is that much different from canned that it is worth the trouble.

This cranberry sauce is very good! The orange and cinnamon really compliment the cranberries without overpowering them. It is a really nice blend of flavors. Plus it is so quick and easy, there really isn't a point to buying the canned stuff. I do agree that it was too tart as is for my family. However, it is better that it be too tart than too than too sweet, as you can always add more but you can't take it away. Cook it wilth a 1/2 of a cup, taste it, then add more sugar if you think it is too tart. I ended up using 3/4 of a cup of sugar, which was the right balance of tart and sweet for us. I also added a 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts for some crunch. Do make it the day before so that the flavors have time to blend. Overall, we really like it and I will be adding it too our Thanksgiving recipes.

This is so easy and delicious. There is never an excuse to use canned cranberry sauce when there are recipes like this. Thank you, Tyler.

It's cranberry sauce... It's suppossed to be tart ! The sugar cuts it a bit but it's still supposed to be tart. Add more sugar if you wish it to be sweeter.
Also,... seriously...to the woman who thinks Tyler repeats a phrase too much ? You have way too much time on your hands to notice such things.

The cranberry sauce is tasty. Much better than most recipes I have experimented with. Thanks for the recipe

I love your show, I have made this and it is good, but my gripe is that whenever you are cooking you are constantly saying "all right" to the point of aggravation for me, and I turn off the sound. Wish you read these, and would pay more attention to how many times you say that in one show.

This is the best cranberry sauce recipe. I always used store bought, until I made this one. The whole family loved it. It's perfectly sweet, sour, and with a kick. And, of course, the easiest recipe ever.
