The flavors were great, but the croutons got quite burnt and I ended up picking them off before serving the casserole. Nevertheless, I didn't find them to be a necessary component.

It was ok, but the cream just sat there in the bottom of the dish. It should have been thickened up a bit, more like a sauce. The croutons were good, but way too big and they just sat there on the top. The individual components were good, but the dish didn't really come together for me.

Easily the tastiest green bean casserole. The homemade croutons beats the fried frizzled onions anytime. Wish I found this recipe sooner.

I've made this recipe several times, and not just for Thanksgiving. I love it! It is easy, and the fact that everything is fresh (not out of a box or can, makes it even better. I tend to add fresh grated parmigiano/reggiano cheese right when it comes out of the oven, so that you can have just a bit more cheesy flavor. YUM!

I have made this twice. I don't like mushrooms so I left them out and it was still good! The leftovers were even better the next day.

This is one of my fathers favorites. The only thing I do different is that I do not use the bread, and it still is great! I

Made this twice and really like it. I changed something the last time I made it. I am not a big crouton person and thought the first time I made it a bit too much bread. So in lieu of croutons I used a can of French's fried onions. Yeah, yeah, you can make fresh onion stings if you wish, but when cooking for my family I will sometimes cut a corner for times sake. I make the casserole exactly as Tyler's receipe say's, but in the end instead of adding the croutons I add the fried onion strings, not a whole can, maybe 2/3rds. Ummmmm, nice flavor and texture. Also I prefere shitaki mushrooms due to that 'woody' flavor they impart; a nice blending with fresh green beans. And the green beans, don't cut a corner here, get fresh 'runner' beans. Try your local farmers market. All canned beans are Blue Lake variety, yuck.
