I liked this, but the sauce didn't thicken and the bread crumbs were too large as indicated. The bread crumb mixture was amazing, but I'd thicken the cream mixture , or perhaps mix cream of mushroom soup with fresh mushrooms next time. good flavor, but a little loose.

Awesome!!! I altered the recipe after reading the reviews. I made the casserole and the crutons the night before and bagged the crutons. Used only 1/3rd of the the loaf of bread and tore into smaller bite size pieces. Used half of the mushrooms and only creminis since my husband does not like the others. I used more herbs by about a tablespoon each and added a little more cheese upon reheating the day of. When I cooked the casserole on day one, I did not cook for the entire amount of time (about 15 minutes because I wanted to allow for reheating and wanted to maintain the crunch of the beans.
Also, I incorporated the liquid from the cream and herbs to the top before reheating. I also added garlic powder to the crutons before baking, garlic powder throughout the casserole, some chopped garlic (about 3 small gloves with the shallots. I think it just went along beautifully!!! Perfect!
This will be on my menu for Christmas eve for sure!!! Fresh herbs make this recipe!!!
thank you Tylor!

I made this today and may have some left for tommorows feast :- Everybody had a "small taste" and loved it. I did add a couple Tbls of flour to the mushroom mixture to tighten it up a bit then added the beans. Also 2 Tbls of Sherry ... trust me this ain't your Mamas Campbell mush!

The croutons were tasty, but the casserole wasn't.

This recipe was so easy to make. I was tired of making the same old recipe with the soup year after year and wanted to try something different. I prepare it the night before except for the croutons and bake it the next day. This saves a lot of time when I am trying to get everything else ready. Everyone raved about it. And I make it throughout the year, not just for Thanksgiving.
