This recipe was wonderful. I was in Trader Joe's when I googled a green bean almondine recipe for Christmas-needed to know what type of almond, sliced or slivered. This came up. Terrific! I used Hericort Verts (French Green Beans-a little fancier for the holiday. The beans came in a 2lb pack, so that's what I went with. The flavor trick is to take time with the onions, they need to caramelize, not just soften. The individual elements of this recipe can be done ahead of time, then put together and reheated just before serving. Also, this is the perfect recipe to customize-need a little heat? Add a little red pepper flake. Like garlic? Add it. More onion, less onion. Very easy to make it to taste, increase, decrease, etc. It's the concept that makes it.

Love this recipe. I substituted pecans and shallots and it still came out great. The shallots need less time to cook as do pecans to toast so the recipe didn't require the full estimated time to prepare. Also added a little organic sugar to the shallots - just a small pinch. So tasty it was hard to keep out of them until dinner time.

Next time I will add much more salt. It looked beautiful as a casserole, but was not as flavorful as I would have imagined. I may try again with more salt.

Made this for thanksgiving, was a big hit! Very delicious and very easy. I replaced the almonds with pecans because I prefer them a little more.

Excellent quick way to dress up green beans. I added a pinch of sugar to my onions after they were softened to help carmelize them. I also started my onions cooking before cooking my beans. I wanted the dish hot. Will add this one to my recipe box.

serves 10-12 as a regular meal side, probably 14-16 if served as part of multi-dish holiday meal. Flavor was fine but I wouldn't make again.

A-MAZING! I plan to make this recipe again and again! Green beans never tasted so good! A huge hit with my hubby too! I added mushrooms because we had some around and I think it was a nice compliment to the dish.
