Add the whole milk, luxurious sharp white cheddar, crisp smoked bacon, and we're talking some serious comfort and luxury. Prepared with a friend and served up with Tyler's roasted tomato soup and arugula salad (all from this site, a bottle of wine, .....oh ya.... (and two folks cleaning up all the dishes made it fun and easy. Followed recipes closely, and rated this 5 stars. I baked mine in my favorite 4 qt round ceramic coated iron dutch oven -- was perfect!

I drooled excessively watching Tyler Florence make this dish. After making it myself and dirtying up a bunch of pots and pans, it was just okay. Maybe I'll try again another night.

It was ok. Seemed like a lot of work relative to the final mac 'n cheese. My 8 year old claimed it was bitter. I followed the instructions to the letter though.

I made this recipe the other day, it was really good. All my family members liked it. I can see why some people have negative comment about this mac 'n cheese, though. If you expect traditional mac 'n cheese, this isn't it. This is more like a cheesy macaroni and bacon casserole.

Holy Moly, this recipe is good! I followed the instructions and measurements exactly, and the dish was a beautiful final product. My favorite part was the golden-crusty top cheese (my family is such a big fan as am I!. But one word to the wise: the size of the baking dish you use is essential given the large yield of the product. I didn't have the proper 3 quart baking dish so I substituted an oversized lasagna dish/casserole dish. Needless to say, it wasn't 3 quarts and it resulted in bubbling over into my oven a little bit (MESSY. However, minus this one fluke, if you make sure you have the right dish, then you'll impress the whole family!

I followed the recipe to the letter for my maiden voyage and have a few, hopefully helpful comments:

When tyler says to heat the milk, do this on a low flame or you risk scalding the milk. I was a bit rattled by the roux, which on medium high heat (suggested temp turned beige quickly and i feared it would affect the overall mixture, but it turned out fine once the milk was added and the mixture whisked vigorously until smooth. I used almost 6 cups of aged extra sharp cheddar and added some mozzarella on the top to create the ole' browned crust effect. For the last 3 minutes I broiled on high to achieve this end. The parsley was undetectable so I imagine one could forgo it, but it does add to the color and texture.

This is an excellent gourmet version of M&C, and the crispy bacon topping makes the presentation quite impressive, and way more flavorful than the mac and cheese by itself. Awesome Tyler and thank you!

Huge hit with the kids, and my husband! This was so good! I had to use yellow sharp cheddar instead of white, but it was still delicious!

Hate the taste when chef's put nutmeg in savory dishes. Totally ruins it.

Good Food typically takes some time to prepare. If you want Mac 'N Cheese out of a box, and the taste that it brings to the table....be my guest. If you want one of the most delicious Mac 'N Cheese that you ever had then spend the time. Oh by the way.... Those that have an issue with the time probably are having time with the Prep Time. I have made this dish over 10 times and every time I figure some time savings method, like having the Garlic, Thyme, Cheese, Bacon...etc all prep'd and ready to go..... In any accounts.... Great Dish!
