This was the best mac and cheese recipe ever. I had to use dried thyme and ground cloves wrapped in cheesecloth for the infusion which worked out well. The flavor of the infusion was mild and the consistency was creamy goodness. This is now my got to mac and cheese recipe!

I am a new, beginner cook. I retired a couple of years ago. My wife works as a food service manager and watches the Food Network quite a bit. Now, at age 57 I have become interested in cooking for the first time in my life. Today, my wife asked me to find a recipe for something she could take to a sorority meeting pitch-in dinner. I found this mac & cheese recipe and thought I would give it a go. It could just be my lack of experience, but, like others have said, I was not able to get the bechamel to thicken. I finally figured out that I would have to add more flour but was afraid of ending up with a raw flour taste. I had to add about another 1 1/2 tablespoons to get it to thicken up and I'm still not sure if that was enough. The jury is still out on this one...as I write this, my wife hasn't gotten back from the dinner. I hope she returns a favorable report.

I didn't really taste the infused ingredients in the milk. Seemed like a good idea but next time I wont waste on that part. It was a little dry, but how can you go wrong with mac and cheese. I also topped it with chopped tomato and panko with butter.

This is the best mac and cheese I've ever eaten! I had to make minor adjustments with this recipe. I had to use powdered thyme and cloves and substituted a few shakes of Old Bay Seasoning since I didn't have the bay leaf. I also had pregrated cheese, so no chunks, but did have some mozzarella cheese sticks I cubed to use for the chunks. Unbelievably awesome! Tyler's one awesome cook, as usual.

This is also my go to mac and cheese recipe! I made this for the first time a couple years ago for a block party, and it was one of the first dishes gone! I make it all the time now and will continue to make this dish!

This is my go-to mac and cheese recipe. It's a great basic recipe that you can make as-is or add your own twist. I've made it with adobo chicken slices and pepperjack cheese, with bacon and blue cheese, with lobster and brie. So good and so versatile! I think the ratios are good, but you can adjust it to taste. Like it creamier? Add more milk or cream. Like more flavor? Add some spices. Duh. To me, this is just the perfect base recipe that teaches anyone how to make a good mac and cheese!

I tried tis recipe las year for Thanksgiving and it was a hit! I did tweak it a bit and added rosemary and some chicken brothe to the cream mixture. I also used mexican style cheese along with the cheddar and I skipped the clove. It was great and I will be making it this year too!
