Have made this Turkey 4 times now and it is always great! After cooking the bacon with the maple syrup glaze, i would love 20 pounds of the bacon. Have made 2 times without the stuffing and still turns out great. You GOTTA try it!!!

All in all very good.Instead of putting the bacon on the bird, we diced, fried and added it tothe stuffing. I only basted with the maple syrup twice. I also made my own corn bread which helped so I didn't have dry stuffing.

I didn't care for this. The gravy was too sweet. And the bacon was just odd. I've made Tyler Florence's fig-glazed turkey recipe, and that one was fantastic. But this one, not so much.

I only bought a turkey breast since I didn't need a whole turkey, but I used this recipe for inspiration. I butterflied the breast, smeared the herb butter all in it (used sage and rosemary, then rolled it, poured a little bit of the melted butter on it, poured a little maple syrup on it, wrapped it with bacon, tied it, and roasted it. It was AMAZING. I think I would do this for any occasion haha! HOWEVER, I only baked the stuffing and it was as DRY AS A BONE. Needs WAY more moisture if you're going to bake it separately. Probably 2-3 C stock, not a measly 1/2 C. I ended up just dumping stock directly on it after I tasted how dry it was after I baked it haha! Problem solved. It might have been because I used homemade cornbread, so it was not as oily as store bought. Minus 2 stars because the stuffing was a bust, except I was able to save it last minute. Phew.

This is the best turkey recipe I have ever tried and I've tried 6 to date. This recipe was spectacular and my family and friends raved. Even the folks that don't like white meat chowed on it because it was so moist. I made a few alterations. I replaced the water with Bourbon and mixed it with the maple syrup. I used 2 boxes of Turkey Stove Top Stuffing cooked with a bag of craisens mixed in and packed the bird with it. I had a 17 lb bird so I cooked it for 4 hours then let it stay in the oven for another hour with the heat turned off.
I covered the bird with bacon for the 3d and 4th hours then removed the bacon, stored it and used it for breakfast the next day. I basted the turkey one more time and let it rest the last hour. This recipe is a keeper and I will use it for years to come. YUM!!!!!

First Turkey I ever made and it was delicious! Juicy, tasty nice crispy skin.

1 Didn't do stuffing- just put in quartered onion, halved lemon and bunch of parsley.
2 Followed directions on prep and cooking BUT I forgot about the maple glaze and forgot to put salt in the sage butter.

After reading all the wonderful reviews, I decided to forsake my tried and true turkey recipe (in a cooking bag, for this change of pace. I followed the recipe exactly as written, except I did not use the corn bread stuffing as I do not like corn bread. I found the turkey a bit on the dry side, and though I used the sage butter inside and out, I could never detect either a hint of sage butter flavor nor maple syrup flavor. My guests ate the turkey, but most told me that my usual turkey recipe was moister and more flavorful. I will be returning to it next year. The gravy, on the other hand, was the best thing about the recipe--as flavorful as my usual gravy with a nice tinge of sweetness from the diluted maple syrup.

The BEST turkey recipe ever. I use this recipe every year. When I asked my family if they would like to try a new turkey recipe the answer is always "no". I'm not the best cook ever but with this recipe I feel like a chef. The turkey is cooked to perfection and juicy instead of dry. I haven't found any other recipe that compares. Actually I went to a friends house for Thanksgiving last year and we both made turkey...mine was gone first. :

I used this recipe a few years ago and everyone loved it. I am using it again this year. My taste buds are watering just from thinking about it.
