this was my first thanksgiving being in charge of everything, and the first time i ever roasted a turkey. Tyler's recipe was the best, though i did change it a bit. instead of just sage butter i added a few other fresh herbs, and i made extra to add to the corn bread stuffing, mashed root veggies, and a bowl of the sage (herbed butter was left out on the table to use on our bread and veggies. it was the best turkey i've ever tasted, and had to be one of the easiest recipes to follow, i don't think the left overs lasted an entire day. thanks Tyler for the great recipe and for making my first cooking of thanksgiving an enjoyable experience. the corn bread stuffing and mashed root veggies weren't too bad either. thanks.

I made my first Thanksgiving dinner from scratch and basically on my own this year. I used this recipe, and it turned out much better than I could have even hoped! My guests said it was the best thanksgiving dinner they have ever had. It made my first big holiday cooking experience one to remember.

This was amazingly easy, and very flavorful. I used Maple bacon, but it was just fine. The juices in the bottom of the pan were too good to let go to waist. I had to put it to use!

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is re: the gravy. From basting the turkey with the maple syrup, the sugar burned at the bottom of my roasting pan so the gravy had a burnt taste. Otherwise- my husband said, "You've outdone yourself." The sage butter under the skin was fantastic!

This turkey is moist, savory, and aromatic. The recipe is easy to follow and fun to do. Everyone who had it said it was the best turkey they have ever eaten. I made the stuffing seperate and crumbled the roasted bacon from the turkey over the top before serving. I stuffed the cavity with sage, onion, and celery instead. EXCELLENT!!!

I've been making maple-glazed turkey for Thanksgiving for years, but when I modified my recipe to incorporate Tyler's sage butter and smoked bacon strips, the votes were unanimous...OUT OF THIS WORLD! The sage butter was infinitely better than simply shoving herbs alone under the skin; the smoky flavors from the bacon perfectly complimented the sweetness of the maple syrup. Also, laying the bacon across the breast is a great idea - not only do the bacon strips prevent the skin from turning too brown, they also seal in the juices AND their fat drippings add flavor to the pan drippings, hence adding a touch of smoky flavoring to the gravy as well. FANTASTIC - thank you, Tyler!
