After reading all the previous reviews, I decided to try this and altered the recipe as follows: Caramel sauce - I used 4 T of butter with only 1 cup of brown sugar (next time I think it could use a little more butter or less sugar as the caramel was still very thick. Cake batter - I only made a half batch of cake batter. Bake time: 45 minutes. The results: The cake layer was only about an inch think and was not even close to overflowing, but the cake is still very good.

The caramel sauce totally hardened-needed water or more butter. The cake spilled out all over my oven and I will have a lot of clean up to do. Very disappointing.

The batter for the cake recipe is enough for 2 9inch pans. If you make this recipe do not use all of the batter. It will overflow

Just like everyone else: A the caramel part of the recipe is INCORRECT - clearly not enough butter and WAY too much for 1 cake. You also never get the nice amber caramel that you can swirl around the pan like he did. B You can?t fit 6 rings into a 9.5" pan. C Did Tyler actually MAKE this cake? It looked like it on the show but the end product had to be done ahead of time by someone who quickly realized the ratios were wrong. The batter comes to the TOP RIM of a 9.5" cake pan with 2.25" sides. And when you bake it, forget it. At least half spills into the oven, you have to cook the rest so long just to get it to set that the top crust is hard and then there's so much caramel to what's left of the cake that you are left with a gooey un-cake-like mess when you are done (and half of the caramel sticks like a hard, gritty clump in the pan because again, the caramel recipe is WRONG. This recipe MUST be for TWO CAKES (using TWICE the butter in the caramel, at least. I was disgusted from start to finish at how grossly inaccurate this recipe is written and even more disgusted with myself for thinking it would somehow miraculously turn out against my better judgment.

This cake looked divine on the show but didn't work out when I cooked it. I even went back to see if I had copied the wrong proportions. The ratio of butter to brown sugar has to be incorrect. I watched the show again and even after starting over it was still a disaster. Help, Tyler! I would definitely use an old recipe before using this one again. Dishes were everywhere, too!

I watched the show this morning. Love his show so I knew whis would be the best!!! I bought all the ingedients..THEN read the reviews and I still tried it!!! I am a great baker and thought that it would turn out for me! I didn't use all of the batter because of the mess everyone wrote about, in their reviews! I glanced in the oven about 20 minutes into the baking process and what a mess!!! It had flowed over into the racks and the bottom of my clean oven! It did not even rate 3 stars!!!! I registered just so I could write about this cake! What a disappointment! Linda

Really wish I would've read the reviews before I made this. I only got 4 pineapple slices to fit in my 9 1/2 cake pan. The very thick brown sugar mixture barely "submerged" the pineapple. After 15 minutes or so of baking, the batter was over-flowing, and burning all over the bottom of my oven. Also, the recipe calls for approximately an hr. of bake time, I did 1 hour 20 min. Still, the top was overly browned and it was under-cooked on the inside. I agree with McKinney, TX--good batter, but still soaking my pan!

Just got done airing out my house and cleaning my oven! This batter tastes great but these measurements need a bigger pan!!! One of those times I wish I had followed my intuition ... the brown sugar syrup didn't work either. Not enough butter or too much brown sugar - didn't want to liquify and when it did, it had cooked way too long. Still trying to get it out of my pan. I hope someone revises this recipe - sure looked good on the show!

Ok the batter tastes fantastic! But, it is overflowing in my oven. I think that there is enough batter for two cakes.

I rarely have problems with a recipe, I am not a novice cook. But I did not use my common sense when I read the ingredients. 2 cups of brown sugar to 4 tablespoons of butter is not nearly enough butter. I add a whole stick on top of the quarter, still not happy with it. The batter for the cake was way too much for a 9 inch pan. I used about 2/3 and it still flowed all over my oven. All in all, very disappointed. Will stick to my Betty Crocker recipe. I did manage to salvage my pineapple and my tried and true recipe is baking right now!
