I don't know what the other reviewers were doing or talking about. I'm guessing they must not have done the recipe right?

I used 3 cups of canned pumpkin in place of the 2 sugar pumpkins, because sugar pumpkins are currently out of season here!

Other than that, I followed the recipe to the T! And it turned out great! We all loved it! Thanks Tyler for a fantastic new holiday pie recipe!

I cooked the pumpkins for twice as long as the directions call for and since there was no direction as to consistency I went forward with it. Even after using the food processor to puree the pumpkin and baking for an 90 minutes, the pie was raw! I should have read the reviews! Sad for a Food Network recipe!

How much pumpkinn do you use? I'd prefer cups instead of number of pumpkins, which come in various sizes.

Delish! I found this receipe online last year and my family loved it! It's one of the new recipes that will be enjoyed for years to come.Let me further add that I altered the recipe because of the negative reviews. I used 2 cans of pumkin instead of the sugar pumpkins. Followed everything else on the recipe but, added pumkin pie spice in addition to the cinnamon. I did find that it did need to cook for quite a long time but it was certainly worth it!(I also took out the meringue on this one

Saw Tyler make this on TV and it looked amazing. What a disappointment. I made this for Thanksgiving in spite of the poor reviews. I shouldnt have. No one cared for it. It was Blah! The bananas made the pie color very grey-ish. It was like babyfood. I used canned pumpkin instead of roasting sugar pumpkins, and used 2 less bananas than the recipe called for. Six seemed like too many and I followed the other reviewers suggestions. I agree with the others, I wouldn't waste the ingredients on this one. I also made a regular pumpkin pie (excluding bananas with the rest of this recipe (it made enough for 2 pies! and that wasn't the best either. I think it needs more sugar. Better yet, I'll try another recipe all together.

This pie is absolutely awful! SO disappointed. We saw this prepared and were intrigued, we thought it would be great. NOT so. The baking time on the pumpkins was not long enough. The crust was ruined - I've never had a bad crust, really soggy and gummy. Flavor was like eating baked squash with banana overtones, not very edible and not a good combination. We were terribly embarrassed. Thank heavens we did a back up pie from Pioneer Woman. Save yourself the time and use the pumpkin puree from the can, don't waste your time baking the sugar pumpkins. In our area they were hard to find, we ended up needing to bake them for 45+ minutes and even pureeing them they turned out grainy. It also makes enough for 3 pies. Three simply awful pies. I agree with the suggestion to drop the meringue. I would suggest avoiding this pie altogether. It is a waste of time and money, but for goodness sakes, if you do make it, use the altered versions people have offered up.

This pie sucked! I followed the recipe to the T and it was not even edible. I felt embarrassed at my Thanksgiving table serving this pie. WAAAAYY to many bananas, it tasted like banana pudding pie, with the color of a nasty green brown. Who tested this recipe ? I agree with all those who made modifications, i agree with them.

Note to the Food Network: I used all your recipes for each dish for Thanksgiving and when it came to the pie, it ruined the whole meal. Fix it!!!!! make the modifications so that other poor people trying to bake a pie will not end up disappointed.

This pie does not work with sugar pumpkins. The pumpkins themselves have no flavor at all and are too watery tasting. The batter cooked up grainy and flat. I did cut the bananas down to three because they have a way of overpowering anything you put them in. I did like the crust though! I am going to try this recipe again with revisions. I usually love everything Tyler cooks but not this one and neither did anyone else who tried it Thanksgiving day. I would also suggest dropping the merigue too. I will be back and let you know what I used and how it turned out.
