This scalloped potato dish is scrumptious. I use two cups of cream though and reduce by half (bring to a rolling boil stirring constantly for several minutes then simmer until half. For the topping I add some finely chopped fresh rosemary and panko to the parm for a really nice crust.

Excellent, excellent, excellent. I love Tyler's recipes because he always delivers. No doctoring necessary. Mommahahn: I have never had good experiences with freezing potatoes. I can't say that it won't work but I haven't had success. The potatoes have been mealy and not pleasant at all after thawing.

I have the dish in the oven right now, but I'm a little annoyed that the directions in the recipe is different from the directions in the video. The recipe does not say to cover the dish, and the baking temp is indicated as 375. I just watched the video again and he bakes it covered (with the corner flapped open at 400. The other little variations are insignificant, but these two things are important in the way the dish turns out. I just ran over to cover the dish in foil, 30 minutes into baking time. I just hope the potatoes will get cooked in time. The taste I'm sure will be great, but the way the recips is written does not warrant 5 stars.

EXCELLENT RECIPE! The whole family loved this dish. The recipe as written seems simple enough however follow the instructional method used in the video for the easiest, stress free, impressive side dish ever. To my taste I used 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. black pepper, and 1/2 tsp. dried thyme. This will surely be in our family's regular rotation plus a wonderful option for when we have guest.

Huge pay off despite nearly slicing off my thumb tip with mandolin. Really, really easy and quick. I steeped the garlic for as long as I could before the cream was going to boil. Outstanding texture, flavor, temperature - hot and steamy right out of the oven - and aroma. Wouldn't change a thing, but may try it with added cheeses next time.
