This is my second time making this roast chicken and I really do love it , I left out the bacon .... This is yummy with the oranges and onions and garlic stuff inside ..... Anyone who says this recipe is to much work is just plain lazy !!!! This receipe is easy breezy .

Love your receipes Tyler, but nothing special here. Better off buying roasted chicken at local Stop and Shop. Lots of work, for less than average flavor.

while this receipe is delicious, this is not kosher for passover.

bacon is not acceptable for Jewish tables and flour is not acceptable for passover.

This was pretty delicious! I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could. The chicken was easy to prepare, if a bit fussy, but the taste was subtle and delicious. This is like your mother's roast chicken, but elevated just a notch. I used fresh parsley, dried oregano and thyme and only 2 cloves of garlic. Like one reviewer, I put my onion in during the second 25 minute cooking cycle so it wouldn't burn. Overall, my 3+ lb chicken took 65 minutes to cook at 425 degrees. I wanted to use the reserved bacon from the skin, but I ended up throwing it out in fear that the gravy would be too salty. This was delicious and moist. I will definitely make it again! Thanks Tyler!!

To the person below me: I watched that episode you were talking about on 3/9/2010 and this isn't the same recipe. That episode was called "Ultimate Roast Chicken" and the chicken he made was "Roast Chicken with Herbed Mushrooms". This recipe is from a different episode that was just called "Chicken".
However, the name of this recipe is extremely confusing and FN should really consider re-naming it

Ok, watched the show today and Tyler consistently said that everything was
going into the oven at 400 degrees. What I hate about FoodNetwork is that they
DO NOT translate the recipes as shown on television. Of course, it's a great recipe but do you know how many recipes I've tried?
Many, Many, Many!! Some wonderful ,yes. But he said
evertyhing went in the oven at 400 degrees. Also, his chicken was about 2 lbs,
the recipe calls for a 5-1/2 lb chicken!! Sorry FN but you are making me crazy!

Every single recipe I've made from Tyler Florence's collection has been the most succulent, savpry, rich, top notch meals with such rave results! This one is amazing and the gravy was drinkably delicious!

This is the best roast chicken I have ever tasted. However, I think there's a typo in the written recipe. At the very top of the recipe it says cook time is 1 hour 20 minutes, but it says to cook it for 50 minutes in the steps (25 plus 25. No way is that enough time.
Also, I managed to screw something up with the gravy, as it was not good at all. But the chicken is so good that I've never needed gravy anyway.

This is one of my favorite recipes! Amazing flavor, and very juicy! Rather easy to make too!
