This is makes a quick meal on a busy day. I used ground beef instead of turkey and added some red bell pepper along with the onions. My husband who is not a Sloppy Joe fan said that it was good enough to make again.

I just tried Tyler's Ultimate Sloppy Joe recipe and thought it was great. I usually record an episode and then review it right before cooking, so measurements aren't always exact. I decided to add two slices of bacon, which I cut into small pieces and cooked first. This added that smokey flavor. I like a little more sauce than I got, so I just added a bit of water at the end. I will make this recipe again!

I have been making sloppy joes for 30 years using a recipe from my mom. Tyler's recipe is very similar - almost identical in fact. His has three extra ingredients - tomato paste, brown sugar and cayenne pepper - and those three ingredients just made my sloppy joes even better! My original recipe of course called for ground beef, but I have been making it with ground chicken for a couple of years now. The cayenne pepper is what added a great little extra kick. I made mine with 2 pounds of ground chicken and I only used 1 1/2 cups of ketchup and the consistency was perfect. I have never measured out the ketchup before (I just always squeezed it out of the bottle until I got the consistency I liked so I never really knew how much ketchup I actually used. I squeezed out two cups and kept adding more and stopped at 1 1/2 cup when it was just right. I would think that if only using 1 1/2 pounds of ground chicken or turkey as stated in the recipe, that 2 cups of ketchup would be too much.

I liked the use of turkey - a great alternative to beef. It was flavorful and tender. But unfortunately the ketchup and mustard took center stage. The condiments should enhance not overwhelm. I tried to moderate the ketchup/mustard flavor dominance by adding some liquid smoke and a touch more sugar. That helped a bit. If I make this again (which I probably won't I'd start with a cup of ketchup and a tablespoon of mustard; then taste - and add more to taste if needed. The amount of mustard is way too much. I'd also recommend adding a little water to thin the sauce; then allow the mixture to simmer gently to blend flavors better. The water will cook off quickly, and you'll have better flavor, tender meat.

I have never had sloppy joe's before and when I watched Tyler make this meal I thought it would be a nice change of pace. I have to say they were really good. I like the cayenne pepper kick and the red wine vinegar really rounded out the flavors. I was also really pleased that he used the ground turkey, cause it takes on flavor well while also being healthier. I made the butternut squash slaw with it but will definitely not be making that part it again.

OK, I've read a couple of reviews and felt compelled to add mine because I've been following Tyler for some time. I record his shows, don't own any of his books, never been to any of his restaurants (does he own any or many? and I probably will get the iPhone ap if it ever comes out. So, I'm a fan but I wouldn't tattoo his name on my body.

I thought this dish was up there. Not one of Tyler's bet but certainly worthy of praise. This dish is super easy and really tasty. For those of you who expected something more say it to your self or out loud "SLOPPY JOES". Come on now, its a dish traditionally made with ground beef for heavens sake.

I did not make this dish with the coleslaw he made on the show but it still tasted good with lettuce and tomatoes.

Mine tasted like ketchup and meat...no complexity or anything. I even tweaked the recipe adding red bell pepper and jalapeno to the onion mix and adding in extra spices. In the end, we ate them, but weren't wowed. I might try these again with tomato sauce rather than so much ketchup.

The Sloppy Joe mix was great as usual coming from Tyler, however I added a llittel Southwest twist to the mix. I drained and added some Diced Rotel Tomatoes with Green Chilie's with a teaspoon Whorshter Sauce and tablespoon of Honey. Since Tyler and Bobby Flay are the recipes I enjoy most. I thought I would add a littel bit of Flay to the Mix....it was a great Sloppy Joe.
