I loved this cake! This was the first cake I ever baked from scratch. It was so easy and so good! The frosting may be too sweet for some people, but I have a major sweet tooth and it was perfect for me!

I was very excited to try this recipe for a friend's birthday after I saw it on the Thanksgiving special, but after reading the reviews, I had some reservations about trying it. I decided to use Ina Garten's recipe from a cookbook I have, but use Tyler's icing recipe.

The icing is just awful!!!! Not only is the flavor too strong and too sweet, but the consistancy is like cement. I had a hard time icing the sides of the cake, everything just kept pulling away. I tasted some scraps I had from the baked cake and the subtle sweetness of the cake cuts the sweetness of this icing recipe. I kinda feel like I ruined Ina's recipe!!

Atleast now I know that this whole recipe is a bust, and its a shame because I admire Tyler and his recipes greatly.

I'm 22 and I love to bake. When I saw this on tv I just had to try it. I do admit that it isnt the same recipe he did on the show but it was still good. I altered it just a bit and it came out moist and just really good. My diabetic boyfriend loved it so much he almost ate the whole thing. Im glad he did this cake. I now have a coconut cake I can make that everyone loves

I made this cake for our Thanksgiving dessert. I Tivo'd the Dessert show and followed the directions from the TV since the recipe on the website here was not the same one Tyler presented on the show. So, the good things were that it was actually pretty simple to make considering it is from scratch. It's just tim consuming, but worth it. The end result looked beautiful and people were asking what bakery I bought it from. The bad things were that I thought the cake was very dense as well. I wanted it to be lighter and fluffier. The icing made a tasty buttercream, but it did not ever get light and fluffy. It also stayed very dense, almost like a stick of butter. I think if you love pound cake type cakes, this cake is for you. If you want light and fluffy, keep looking.

Because this recipe was so time consuming, I was really disappointed that the cake texture ended up dense (like a pound cake and the buttercream frosting firmed up and didn't stay fluffy. The cake looked pretty, but it also needs to be moist and yummy. I'll keep looking.

I haven't made the recipe yet, but I've been checking back since the show aired and it's finally the right one. I'm going to save and print this right now just in case it disappears!

THIS IS NOT THE RECIPE that was shown on TV. If you did not want to give the original just say so.

However, please do not assume that the viewers are so nieve/ignorant to know that you have put a totally different recipe in place of the one viewed on TV.

This is not the first time!

I have tried looking for this recipe since it aired on the show and was unable to find it until this evening. I was going to make this desert for our Thanksgiving feast. Now, I am glad I didn't after reading all of the reviews. Hopefully, they will air it again or repost the correct recipe so all of us viewers can enjoy making this a holiday favorite.
