This recipe is fantastic! Easy easy and so delicious. Next time I have to remember to wait a little longer before turning it out onto the serving plate . . . molten caramel sauce everywhere! But my in-laws raved about the custard-y french toast and delicous apples and cranberries . . . it's a definite keeper!!

I've made this several times with different apples, bread, and nuts. every variation comes out fabulous. Just make sure you let it cool for 15 before you invert it on plate. This is my families most favorite breakfast treat, and has become a tradition for special mornings.

Very simple and easy to make! I upted to use whole-grain bread and skim milk and it is a much healthier recipe.

He cut the "cheeks" off 4 sides of the apples after peeling them. It was very good. I will be careful to whom I serve as the last batch of people keep dropping by to see if I've made it again!

When I saw ithis recipe on the show last week, I knew I had to try it. It was quick and easy to make. I substituted brioche for challah bread. I had everything else on hand. My boyfriend loved it. He almost licked the plate clean. His words after eating it were, "make it again." I will definitely make it again, and keep it in my recipe file.

    Thank You Tyler!!

My entire family devoured this delicious recipe of yours. Topped it with whipped cream, and a side of thick cut bacon; no other French Toast recipe can even come close!!

Thank you for a fairly simple, yet wonderful meal.

Hilary, clearly it is not non-sense to put apple halves in the pan otherwise the other reviewers wouldn't be giving the recipe a 5 star rating. In fact, no one even mentioned it was a problem. If you watched the episode you would see that, yes, the deep cast iron skillet is, indeed, piled high BUT Tyler mentions how the apples and the bread cook down significantly while baking in the oven. The apples should be cut exactly the way the recipe states.

If Hilary in San Jose thought only cutting the apples in half was nonsense, why didn't she use a little common sense & cut them into thick slices? These recipes aren't etched in stone ... adjust them to your own taste and liking. As others, I had to substitue the bread used but still made excellent and fun breakfast for my 3 grandchildren.
