These are perhaps the most surprising and delicious cookies I've made in years.

I love that they are crunchy outside yet moist and chewie. Love the combination of spices!

This cookie is rather unusual. I'm still not quite sure if I like them or not after eating a few. They seem extra sweet to me. I'm not crazy about the spice combination although I might have put too much cardamom in as I had some crushed cardamom left over from another recipe and I just threw it all in without measuring. It was close to 3/4 tsp., maybe a little bit more. (As a Norwegian, I really like cardamom. I also added nuts. I've never used rosewater before and bought a bottle just for this recipe. Now I'm wondering if that $3.79 purchase was a waste of money! I really don't know at this time if would ever make these again. I might change my mind by the time I've eaten my way through the recipe. Stay tuned!

I loved this cookie's flavor! It flattened out and was very chewy. I like the chewiness, but think there is something wrong with the recipe provided since the cookies on the show were not flat like mine turned out. I also cut the chopped ginger down and I do not notice the rose water flavor as others have noted.

Just made these and they were wonderful! I used about 1/3 of a cup crystallized ginger after hearing the judges comments.
I am going to search Amazon for your cookbook!

I have never made a spice cookie before, so I was a bit hesitant to try this....but it did not disappoint!! The only change I made was to reduce the crystallized ginger to 1/2 cup. The pepper and ginger were NOT overpowering at all. When I took them out of the oven they smelled divine. The taste is delicious. Rolling them in the raw sugar makes them look great, and adds so much texture to the cookie. I got the rosewater from Whole Foods Mkt. I agree with the other reviewers, we are here to rate the COOKIE. And if you ACTUALLY MADE THE COOKIE, you would know it is surely worthy of an award. This would make a perfect holiday cookie. Thanks Camilla! Can't wait to make it again!

I visited the site to get a copy of the winning cookie, and was surprised by the upheaval. I am Susan of the Sweet and Salty Toffee brownies on the same episode. I too was shocked that it was not just "home cooks", but, turns out the rules allow all comers. So Camilla won fair and square. I didn't get to try her cookie, but it looked divine. I plan to make them and have already borrowed some of her ideas. She is a great lady. I am disappointed that I didn't win, as I am sure all the contestants are, but one does the best one can and then hopes for the best. I suspect Camilla won for the same reason she "won" her degree and her fit figure, and many of her other accomplishments. She simply works harder than most.

Are you people rating a cookie recipe or a person. The cookies were great! As far as the comments about the cook, they were uncalled for. Have you even read the rules for applying to the show. It doesn't ask if you are a professional, all they care about is that the recipe is an original creation. So people lighten up and get a life; or at least read the rules of the contest before you start condemning others.

I just watched the episode today, knowing none of this controversy. I literally screamed across my apartment to my boyfriend to say, "Camilla's on the cookie challenge!!" I am the HUGEST Camilla Saulsbury fan. I watch a heck of a lot of Food Network to learn and find great recipes. She is the BEST of the best. Her Mahogony Chicken recipe from a few years back (which also got attacked was stellar. I made it for my nephew's birthday party and the kid is still raving about it today. It really made inroads into our aunt/nephew relationship and we have never been closer because of her great talent. She is a genius in the kitchen (and elsewhere I should imagine and should be treated with the greatest respect. I love you Camilla! Keep the recipes coming. You make a lot of people who don't care about prize money very very happy. I am so thankful that your great talent is being shared with the world. And I thank Food Network for keeping it "blind" so that you can keep coming back again and again. Bravo!
