I have always been intimidated on cooking a turkey, Never even tried....until I saw this recipe and so I made my first turkey yesterday. The only thing I added to the recipe was.....I separated the skin from the breast and rubbed butter under the skin along with adding the contents of one envelope of Lipton's Golden Onion Soup Mix. Before putting it in the oven, I coated the outer skin with butter, salt and pepper. I cooked an 11 lb turkey that was "tented" with foil at 325 for 2 hours, then took it back out to recoat with melted butter and then cooked one remaining hour at 425. The turkey was done, it was moist, had the best flavor of any turkey I have ever eaten and I can say this won't be the last turkey that I make. Super easy recipe and it isn't drying to the meat! :

joealdelrio....yes, just put veggies and herbs directly into the turkey cavity unless you are stuffing (which I highly recommend! Ovens are all different so start checking with an instant thermometer after 2 1/2 hrs. Good Luck!

This is the way our family has been roasting our turkey since time began. Something to be said about simplicity and good ol' grandma. We wouldn't do it any other way!

I've used this recipe the last two years and made two perfect, Norman Rockwell turkeys. My daughters rate my turkey the best over both the grandmothers turkeys! Moist, beautiful turkeys.

I plan on making this, this will be my first turkey..how long for a 13 pound turkey? As far as the filling stuff, just put them in as is, not in a bag or foil? Thanks for any help you can give me and have a wonderful holiday!

I made one addition, I rubbed butter with salt, pepper, and thyme under the skin. I didn't fill the cavity anything. The with timing was spot on. For a 19lb bird, took 4 1/2 hours to roast. This recipe makes a perfect, moist, picturesque turkey. No basting required! Everyone raved about it!

I cooked my first thanksgiving Turkey yesterday. This was THE BEST turkey I have ever tasted. The meat was so juicy and moist. I will continue to use this recipe for ever!
