San Francisco may not be the first location that springs to mind when you think of Jewish delis, but Wise Sons is definitely worth a stop when you find yourself in Fog City. A comforting beacon on even the cloudiest days, this spot churns out scratch-made Jewish specialties that include pastrami. “It is so spiced and so juicy,” says Eric Greenspan. Opt for the Reuben sandwich and the flavorful meat will come piled between slices of Rye bread that are slicked with Russian dressing and stacked with Swiss cheese and sauerkraut. Another favorite is the bialy stuffed with smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers.
