Local fixture Tasaka Guri Guri has been in the same spot in Maui Mall for 40 years, slinging its Valley Isle treat that dates back more than a century. When Jokichi Tasaka emigrated to Maui from Japan in the early 1900s, he developed a unique dairy-based hybrid of sherbet and ice cream that is a local staple to this day. Tasaka’s scoops, which come in no-frills paper cups, make for a refreshing treat that’s not too creamy, not too tart.
