Food Network: How many different pieces of gingerbread did you use to create your gingerbread showpiece?
Bronwen: The structure of the house was built with 95 pieces, but we used almost 600 pieces, which included the brick edges, the furniture, fireplace and logs, and the tiny roof brackets! We weren't too sure of the name for them so they came to be known as "the things that hold the roof up", or TTTHRU's!! We brought close to 1000 pieces with us, many of them breaking into hundreds of gingerbread shards.
Food Network: Is there any ingredient that you used more than others to create your showpiece? If so, how much of that ingredient did you use?
Bronwen: We used 55 pounds of flour to bake our house! It had 22 pounds of coconut grass!
Food Network: After your piece was completed, approximately how much did it weigh?
Bronwen: I would guess it weighed in at 175 to 200 pounds! We almost dropped it because neither of us was prepared for how much it would actually weigh!!
Food Network: How long did it take for you to bake your gingerbread prior to arriving at the competition?
Bronwen: Jennifer and I spent nearly 100 hours each baking and re-baking! There were a lot of late nights and long days!
Food Network: What’s one fun fact about your showpiece?
Bronwen: Unfortunately Jennifer was allergic to a good portion of our house, which was made of marzipan! She could only touch it with gloves on!
