First Impressions

There was no going back on the first day of filming when finalists had only one chance to make a solid initial impression with fans and the mentors alike. What the hopefuls said about their points of view — and their takes on their rivals — would ultimately carry throughout the season.

Sabotage Strikes Star

Food Network Star is difficult enough without unexpected twists, but that's exactly what the finalists experienced when a Cutthroat Kitchen-style challenge befell them. Reuben was tasked with cooking out of what Alton deemed "the infamous little kitchen," while Loreal had to grind the meat for her meatballs with a snow-cone machine.

Monster Delivery

Team PayDay stole the show at YouTube Space LA when Christopher, Aryen and Lenny delivered an over-the-top clip personifying mad science gone awry. "I can't unsee that," Alton said after watching the video.

Inaugural Imitation

At the last moment, Chris ditched his plan to discuss his experience in the military and instead offered a presidential imitation — and it earned him hearty laughs from the crowd and mentors alike.

Look Who's Back

Luca wowed fans and his fellow finalists in Episode 7 when he returned to the competition after a winning run on Star Salvation. He was later deemed the "comeback kid" by Bobby and earned one of three top spots in the finale.

Making Waves

Lenny teased the possibility of a future belly flop when he introduced his burger to the crowd at the Caesars Palace pool party, and sure enough, he followed through, falling torso first into the water after he earned the most tokens from guests.

Flower Flop

"I'm just finding this whole experience kind of weird," Susie admitted of Team Emma's otherworldly showing in Las Vegas. It was topped off by Loreal's whimsical sprinkling of rose petals on the Committee's table before dessert was served.

Pork Snafu

Despite Emma's best intentions, her story of how pork comes to be proved disastrous and took away from her overall presentation. "You are friendly. You are likable. And then, you burned some piglets in a barn," Alton told her.

Palate Imperfect

Nicole was tasked with cooking for children's appetites on The Rachael Ray Show, and one young guest shocked the audience and mentors when he spit out her too-spicy shrimp dish.

The Top 3

After 10 weeks of competition, Lenny, Nicole and Luca earned top honors in the contest when Bob and Susie green-lighted their promos and asked them to film pilots.
