The launch of the project, and the selection process begins with video auditions and reality dawns: these kids do not look like future top chefs. With the help of top restaurateurs Ruth Watson and Gennaro Contaldo, Jamie must makes some tough decisions.
The successful 15 are announced and training begins at Chef School where they'll learn the basics. Jamie and his business team begin their plans for the project's restaurant. In the middle of it all, Jamie and Jools announce the birth of baby Poppy.
Jamie faces a serious problem. Some of his trainees aren't attending classes and others aren't up to scratch. One trainee gets suspended. Jamie takes the remaining 14 for a camping trip to start moulding them into the chefs he wants them to be.
Jamie sends the trainees on placements, working alongside professional chefs. It's a fantastic opportunity but 2 more decide to leave the course. Furthermore when he puts the trainees through a dress rehearsal, some of the trainees lose their tempers.
It's now the final weeks before the restaurant opens and the trainees are being pushed through their paces in the newly completed restaurant kitchen. Will they be ready for the big night, a celebrity launch and showbiz bash? It's his biggest gamble yet.
FIFTEEN is not making a profit, there are problems with the toilets and customers are disappointed on the nights when Jamie's not cooking. The students have been invited to cook for the Prime Minister. Jamie's beginning to wonder if they'll ever cut it.
While Jamie Oliver is on paternity leave the trainee chefs start taking days off work behind his back. And when he returns to the restaurant he discovers that two of them have decided to throw in the towel completely. The restaurant is run by the trainees.
