When Mario & Rooney decide to host a pizza party for inspiration they visit century-old Pizzeria da Ciro al Trianon. After a look at the art of the pizzaiolo, Mario creates a variety of simple, colorful pizzas and calzones to enjoy with a crowd of friends.
Mario takes his friend John on a tour of Naples and its street food from the Pignasecca market to the bakeries of Spaccanapoli. They wind up their day at Cafe Gambrinus, Naples' oldest cafe.
Mario & Rooney visit a water buffalo farm in Battipaglia for mozzarella. Mario then uses the cheeses in 3 dishes, Later in a field near Battipaglia, the dairy owner stages a pantomime reenactment of the ancient origins of the town's cheese.
Mario and Rooney are off to beautiful Sorrento in search of its seafood delights. A specialty gnocchi alla sorrentina is one of the highlights at a dockside restaurant, before they head out to sea in search of squid and shrimp for gamberoni al'Acqua Pazza.
Amalfi grows some of the sweetest lemons, as Mario and Rooney soon find out. They go to a limoncello factory, where Mario cooks up lemon salad, bruschetta with shrimp and limoncello, and tagliarini. In Positano they try granita al lemone.
Every four years, Amalfi hosts the Regata Storica for Italy's ancient naval powers and Mario's cooking dinner for the home team. Mario cooks some 8 seafood sautes on the beach and later takes in the regatta.
