Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off Season 2, Highlights from Episode 3
The Competition Goes to the Diner
Rachael and Guy welcome the remaining six celebrities to Mel's Drive-In on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. The next challenge will test their adaptability. Each team must create a full diner experience and put their own spin on one of three classic sandwiches: a tuna melt, cheeseburger or club sandwich. Each team must have one member serving in the front of the house and two members preparing the food in the kitchen.
Doling Out the Dishes
As Guy explains, there's a catch. Since Team Rachael won last week's challenge, they have the advantage. They can assign the sandwiches to the members of Team Guy. Team Rachael decides to assign the tuna melt to Dean, the cheeseburger to Chilli and the club sandwich to Johnny. Of course, no one gets what they would have picked themselves. The celebrities will have 30 minutes to plan their menus and 1 hour to prepare for service.
No Luck for Dean
Dean reluctantly must make tuna melts. He has the hardest time getting his tuna flavored the way he wants it. Eventually he gives up and starts assembling the sandwiches on ciabatta rolls and tops the tuna with grated Gruyere but doesn't have enough cheese to make it count as a melt.
Focus, Chilli, Focus
Chilli needs a bit of help figuring out how she's going to make a burger that's juicy but also cooked well, something she has no experience with. Guy gives her the lowdown on how to make diner-style burgers. Using a squeeze bottle of water and a dome will ensure the burgers cook up moist and that the cheese will melt. Chilli's still not convinced she'll be able to pull it off.
Hines Is Forced to Face His Fear
Hines is scared to use the food processor in this challenge. Rachael made him promise he'd work with the machine to create his Double Bacon Burgers, which will have bacon ground into the patty in addition to having crispy bacon on top. Both Carnie and Kathy encourage Hines to face his fear.
Discussing the Dishes
Rachael and Guy talk about the merits of the dishes. They're really impressed with Team Rachael's sandwiches. The one complaint is that Kathy's triple-decker sandwich really didn't need that third slice of bread and Guy thinks it would have been better if it included seitan bacon. Rachael had advised her to use it, but Kathy didn't like the bitter taste.
Two Times the Winner
Team Rachael wins the challenge again. The diners loved their sandwiches, but the two they enjoyed the most were Hines' and Carnie's, making it a tie. Team Guy didn't do so well in this challenge. People found Chilli's burger to be "nothing special" and Dean's tuna melt didn't have enough flavor or cheese. The two must face off in the blind-tasting challenge and create a milkshake in only 5 minutes.
The Classic vs. the Twist
Rachael and Guy must decide whether they like the classic milkshake or the boozy one better. Rachael says she loves the classic, but Guy is leaning toward the boozy creation. In the end they choose Dean's Creamsicle milkshake as the winner, which means the journey ends for Chilli.
