Rachael Vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off Season 2, Highlights from Episode 4
Introducing Your Clients
If the colorful balloons and bouncy house haven't tipped off the celebrities yet, Guy explains their new challenge will be catering parties for kids. Each celebrity contestant must create 30 savory and 30 sweet bites. One team will cook for the boy's party and one team will cook for the girl's party. Since Team Rachael had the advantage from last week, they get to choose which kid they want to cook for. Each team will have 10 minutes to interview their kid client before planning the menu.
Girl Power
Team Rachael chooses to do the party for Jaden, the little girl. Hines had hoped to play football with the boys, but he's willing to compromise — plus, he's outnumbered. While talking to Jaden, the team learns she loves hummus and pita, which are in Kathy's wheelhouse. Carnie also suggests making sloppy Joes and Hines comes up with the idea of quesadillas. They will also be making a dessert each. Jaden can't wait for the party.
Boys Against Girls
Team Guy gets to cook for Adam, the little boy. Adam is really indecisive when it comes to picking his favorite foods. Johnny asks Adam questions about what he likes, but he's not having any luck getting answers. Since Dean's a dad, he knows exactly how to talk to kids so he starts suggesting some crowd-pleasers like pizza, chicken fingers, cupcakes and crispy treats. Adam loves all of it.
Fourth Time's the Charm?
Kathy's making S'mores Crispy Treats, but she's never made the dessert before. Unfortunately, her concentration is lacking and she ends up making the same mistake three times, adding the rice cereal at the wrong part in the process. On her fourth try she gets it right. But her mistake will cost her precious time. She may not be able to make all three of her dips: hummus, salsa and guacamole.
Dean's Ace Up His Sleeve
Dean's making Dragon's Breath Crispy Treats for the boys. Even though it has chocolate, like the other team's recipe, his will be mesmerizingly different. He plans to freeze each square in liquid nitrogen before serving them to create a dragon's breath effect that he's sure will be a hit.
Sloppy Jadens
Carnie is calling her dish Sloppy Jadens in honor of their kid client. At first she had a bit of trouble getting all the ground meat to brown, but the dish is now coming along. Rachael checks in on her progress and is worried that the Rad-berry Bars might not be the right direction for dessert, especially since Jaden had asked for cheesecake.
Johnny's Cooking Chicken ... Again
Johnny's all too comfortable working with chicken so he ends up working on chicken fingers, which their kid client, Adam, likes. However, Johnny has never deep-fried before. After a failed batch, Dean tells him he must get his oil to the right temperature before dropping in the chicken.
Clowning Around
Team Rachael is having lots of fun clowning around and playing dress-up with the girls. Hines has even put on some feathery boas and he's letting the girls paint his nails. The whole team is trying their hardest to play up the fun, especially Kathy, who's trying to compensate for not having enough time to make more than two dips.
It's Down the Middle
Before revealing the results of the challenge, Rachael discusses the dishes that had mixed reactions from the kids. Only half of the girls liked Carnie's Sloppy Jadens, the rest thought they lacked flavor. Although Johnny's dish was pleasing to many of the boys, the chicken fingers were unevenly cooked, some even burnt, because they weren't cut to uniform pieces before being fried.
One of These Things Is Not Like the Other
Rachael and Guy have two very different hot dogs in front of them. Because he's never cooked a hot dog, Johnny made a crumbled sausage sandwich topped with fried onions and a special sauce. Carnie made a classic hot dog topped with bacon, cheese and her special sauce. Even though Rachael calls the sausage creation a "gourmet" version, neither she nor Guy is convinced it's true to the challenge.
The Definition of a Hot Dog
Ultimately, Rachael and Guy decide that the hot dog, because it was a true hot dog, wins the challenge. Unfortunately, the sausage creation wasn't made using a hot dog, so Johnny ends up being eliminated. Guy thinks Johnny should be really proud of himself for making a very flavorful dish and for getting so far in the competition.
