Episode 1: Assuredly Ahead in the Race

"Nicole and I are psychos when it comes to selling," says Keri, who's sure their team of Spice It Up will be the first to meet Tyler's challenge of earning $200 selling on the Santa Monica Pier. Tyler hands the ladies an additional $100 for winning. Where does that leave everyone else?

Late to the Adventure

After Spice It Up's win, Tyler halts all sales, leaving some teams in the lurch. "We have sold two dishes, Onel reveals. "We have only made 20 bucks." The Guava Tree Truck is off to a rough start, but fortunately Tyler gives each of the teams an extra $66 and sends them on their Route 66 journey with maps in hand.

Smoking Out the Competition

"She's a diva," Sophia says of the Pho Nomenal team's truck, which is known for its issues. Unfortunately the truck goes up in smoke on the highway to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and the girls have to rely on getting towed to their selling spot. "If we go home, we go home strong," says Sunny, determined to sell food.

An Italianized Fish 'n' Chips

The first Truck Stop Challenge has the teams selling fish 'n' chips, which they must tailor to their concepts. "Orders are just flying out the window," says Danamarie of Diso's. "We're going to win this." Tyler calls Diso's to let the team members know they've earned an additional $500 for selling the first 20 orders.

The Guava Tree Truck Goes Home

Tyler announces Waffle Love has earned the most sales, but in the bottom are Pho Nomenal Dumplings and The Guava Tree Truck. The odds are stacked against Pam, Onel and Mariah as Tyler announces that Pho Nomenal moves on to Flagstaff, Ariz. "Overall I'm proud of what we did," Onel says through tears.

Episode 2: Rattling Up the Competition

Moving on to Sedona, Ariz., Tyler springs a Truck Stop challenge on the teams: They must sell rattlesnake-and-rabbit sausage. "Put your salesmanship to the test," Tyler says. The teams must sell from pink Jeeps to visitors in Sedona Park. The winning team will get its sales doubled, and Diso's is the first one off.

Late to the Game

Despite an earlier advantage in Flagstaff, Ariz., the brothers of Waffle Love fall behind in prepping their waffle Benedicts when a blender blows up. "I could beg on the street for $10 quicker than this," says Alex, frustrated they've lost customers to their rivals. After paying for the sausages, they're left in the negative.

Sunsetting Sales

"We just didn't have time to search," says Adam, deciding to return to their earlier spot in town. After very light foot traffic, they soon decide to head to a crowded sunset spot overlooking the canyon. "I expected everyone to rush the truck and that maybe we'd have a line," says Danamarie. But that isn't the case.

A Fast Fall to the Bottom

Selling the most rattlesnake chili, the ladies of Spice It Up win the Truck Stop challenge — and place first. Despite getting second place in the Truck Stop challenge, Diso's is displaced by Waffle Love in total sales, and drops to the bottom two, joining Pho Nomenal. "By a difference of $15," Tyler says, Pho Nomenal will move on to the next stop: Santa Fe, N.M.

Episode 3: An Early Win Sets the Tone

For their first Truck Stop taste challenge of the season in Santa Fe, N.M., the teams must each create a dish featuring New Mexican chiles, and Postcards turns out a soup with cornbread. "The flavors are just amazing," says Chef Martin Rios before awarding them the win and $1,000 for their till, on top of the $150 for seed money.

The Price of Envy

Jealous of Postcards' advantage, Spice It Up gets to selling when Tyler calls with a Speed Bump: The teams must sell head-to-head at the farmers market without restocking. "Gauging what food we have left, I'm not feeling too confident," says Chris. And the ladies' complex dishes are deterring customers. "Right now I wish we did just make burgers," says Keri.

You Win Some, You Lose Some

As Postcards heads to find a new spot, Mo has trouble parking the truck, and grazes a car. "I don't ... feel it's a big deal," says Greg, deciding they leave the scene. "Thank God for that extra $1,000," says Grae, hoping their earlier win will cushion any blows. But the team's irresponsibility leads Tyler to dock them $500.

Big Ideas Reap High Rewards

As Waffle Love is trying to get through its last batches of dough, Jared's inspired to make a grilled cheese waffle. "It increased our sales by 25 percent," claims Steven. On elimination day, due to Postcards' penalty, Waffle Love places first. Spice It Up is sent home and does not move on to Amarillo, Texas.

Episode 4: Big Appetites and Winning Flavors

After finishing first in Tyler's steak-eating contest, the Pho Nomenal girls are on a high going into the next challenge in Amarillo, Texas. But they don't know Tyler sent an undercover judge to taste all of the teams' dishes for an additional $500. "It means so much that we won a taste challenge," says Sophia when they discover they've earned the reward. "It gives us validation," Sunny adds.

A Blessing in Disguise

The boys of GD Bro are bummed they haven't yet won any challenge in the race, but they end up parking near the Pho Nomenal truck to steal some thunder. They cater to the locals with their Tex-Mex fries and a special "Herd 'Dat" burger. Unfortunately provisions run out fast. Luckily Tyler lets two members from each team restock in a challenge. "The Speed Bump from Tyler was a blessing," says Kevin.

Two Firsts in One Weekend

"We're not going to win the challenge," says Jared, noting Waffle Love's decision to sell fewer steak specials. At elimination Tyler calls out the brothers for their sales tactic, saying that the team tends to "fall apart in cooking challenges." In the end they come in second. GD Bro wins the $500 steak-cooking challenge as well as first place for the most sales — two firsts for the team.

A Final Push with No Reward

On Day One, Postcards took hours to open because of a lenghty prep. But on Day Two, the team finds an opportunity to catch up when the boys of Waffle Love leave for church. But as soon as the brothers return "people are jumping out of our line," says Grae. In the end Postcards makes the least sales and doesn't move on to Tulsa. "We can walk out of this with our heads held up high," says Greg.

Episode 5: Attracting the Crowds

In Tulsa, Tyler challenges the teams to an old-school marketing challenge without using social media. "What if we have a whole little carnival going on," Sophia suggests to her team. The girls set up in the Blue Dome District with a face painter and magician, outdoing the other two teams with their roadside attraction. "I've really felt like we've been outsold," Waffle Love's Steven says upon seeing the girls' long line.

Drive-in, Drive-Thru Success

"It's the first-ever Great Food Truck Race drive-thru," Tyler says as he reveals to the teams that they must compete head-to-head to earn the most chips, worth $25, from members of the driving club Route 66 Cruisers at a local drive-in movie theater. "Whatever we did when we were talking to those people, we did it the right way," says Steven of Waffle Love, because the brothers have the longest line of cars.

Slumping Sales and Suspicious Envy

"I only see a line at the waffle truck," says Pho Nomenal's Sunny, who's resorted to handing out samples of her team's popcorn chicken to draw customers. She's not sure if the boys' chicken and waffles just take longer to make or if they simply had the better sales pitch. "I feel like Waffles has caught up to us with this challenge," says GD Bro Truck's Kevin, feeling defeated as his team heads to find a new spot.

Location, Location, Location

"If we move, you risk two things: not finding a spot and time," says Mark, trying to convince his GD Bro team that they shouldn't move from their current location despite lackluster business. After driving around and around, the guys end up back in the same spot, and they resort to a name-your-own-price menu to finish out the day. But it's not enough to keep them from getting eliminated and from going to St. Louis.

Episode 6: A Tasty Advantage

"It's pretty intimidating to be up against Waffle Love," says Becca during the St. Louis, barbecuing challenge. She adds, "I believe we're going to surpass them." The Pho Nomenal team ends up winning with two out of three dishes, giving the girls an advantage later in the race. But for now Tyler hands each team $150 in seed money, sending them on to Springfield, Ill.

The Race Just Got Real

"From here to the end, The Great Food Truck Race is just that: a race," says Tyler, explaining that each team will have to sell 50 dishes tailored to each Chicago neighborhood of Chinatown, Little Italy and Greektown. But because Pho Nomenal won an advantage earlier, the team has to sell only 20 dishes in Chinatown. "We are world travelers," says Sunny, feeling her team has this challenge down.

When the Going Gets Tough

"It's the only one we can find in Chinatown," says Adam of their not-so-favorable parking post in Chinatown. Waffle Love is selling banana spring rolls pretty well in the beginning, but then customers stop coming. The guys realize that Pho is already heading to Little Italy, ahead of them in the challenge. "We did not come all this way to lose in Chicago," says Adam, inciting his brothers to keep fighting.

Not Quite Near the Finish Line

"Before I know it, we've sold out our 50 again," says Sophia of their last round in Greektown. "We're going to race over to Tyler and make sure we get there first," she adds. But Tyler calls with a surprise: The girls actually sold outside of Greektown, and they have to do it all over again. "None of your sales count," he tells Sophia. "This mistake could cost us being the winner," says Sunny.

A Mad Dash to Victory

"We can make a go of this," says Adam, finding out that the Pho girls have fallen behind. Both teams park near one another in Greektown. After completing their selling goals, both teams race to the finish line, but Pho Nomenal gets there first. "You are the best food truck in America," Tyler announces as they run toward a suitcase of $50,000. "[It's] the seed money to the dreams that we have," says Sunny.
