Man Bouquets

Normally you give Mom flowers on Mother's Day, but we're turning the tables and giving Dad flowers for Father's Day! Here are some edible bouquets for dad.

Beef Jerky Bouquet:

Start with small rounds of soft cheese that come in wax wrappers. Remove the tab on one side of each cheese round and score pizza-slice shapes on the wax with a craft knife. Peel back the wax wrappers leaf by leaf and they will start to look like flower petals. Skewer long sticks of beef jerky with wooden skewers to make stems. Cut beef jerky leaves out of flat pieces of jerky. Attach the beef jerky leaves to the stems with toothpicks, then attach a cheese flower head to the top of each stem. Trim the bottom of a loaf of bread so it stands upright, then hollow out the loaf for a vase. Put the meat and cheese flowers in the bread vase.

What You'll Need:

  • Beef jerky: both sticks and flat pieces
  • Cheese rounds in wax
  • Loaf of hard bread
  • Wooden skewers
  • Toothpicks
  • Craft knife
  • Bread knife

Liquor Bottle Bouquet:

Use a hot glue gun to attach mini liquor bottles to paper straws, then let them dry completely. Start with a cocktail shaker base and add water to the bottom of the base to give it some weight. Put the shaker top with the holes onto the base. Put wooden skewers in the holes along with some sprigs of mint as a drink garnish. Place the paper straws with the liquor bottles over the skewers. Add limes on skewers or a similar garnish to the bouquet.

What You'll Need:

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Mint sprigs
  • Limes
  • Wooden skewers
  • Paper straws
  • Hot glue gun
  • Mini liquor bottles

Meat Bouquet:

Cut a head of green cabbage in half and remove the loose leaves. Lay the cabbage head on a serving platter as the base of the bouquet. Cut a cucumber into long strips or sticks (for the stems). Peel off a thin strip of cucumber skin to use as a ribbon to wrap around the cucumber stems of the bouquet. Position the stems on the platter below the cabbage.

To make meat roses, take a piece of salami or thicker-cut deli meat and roll it into a cone. Then roll that cone up with another layer of meat, repeating twice to make a layered, rolled rose. Pin the layers together with 1 toothpick, then stick a toothpick vertically through the rose so it sticks out of the bottom. Attach the meat rose to the cabbage head with the bottom toothpick. Create additional roses using the same technique with more meat, provolone cheese and lettuce, then add them to the cabbage.

For a finishing touch, cut an "x" at the end of a grape tomato. Open and slightly peel the end of the tomato, creating a tulip-like opening. Stick a toothpick through the opening and end of the tomato, and use the toothpick to secure it to the cabbage. Repeat with additional grape tomatoes.

What You'll Need:

  • Serving platter
  • Cucumber
  • Green cabbage
  • Grape tomatoes
  • Deli meats (cut in half)
  • Deli cheese (sliced)
  • Lettuce
  • Toothpicks
