What Did We Get Ourselves Into?

From their perch above Boot Camp, Bobby and Anne got to see some of the craziest happenings, especially the first day: Casey trying to cut an onion with a fork and a knife? Stephanie making chocolate out of vanilla extract and brown sugar? A day didn't go by where something didn't happen, and sometimes the mentors even got in on the action.

Potato Chip Crush

For the first challenge in Boot Camp, a baseline Skill Drill, Benji made a grilled cheese, one of the only dishes he could do decently. While garnishing his plate with potato chips, Anne stops by to play a little game on him, complete with a potato chip beak. What she doesn't yet know is that Benji has a crush on her "in a very non-creepy way," he says.

Getting Out of Hand

There was never a dull moment while Lance was around. Calling himself the "black Bobby Flay," he thought he could cook just like Bobby and garnished his first dish with habaneros. Anne pointed out they were too hot to use, and she removed them for him to taste. Lance went ahead and tasted directly from her hand. Bobby couldn't get over it, calling it his "favorite moment in history."

Two Heads Are Better Than One

The food processor seemed to be the one appliance that gave everyone the most trouble. At one point, Carie even gave up trying to figure it out, opting instead for a blender. Here Bobby helps Danielle use it to make her pesto sauce during the pizza challenge.

Cooking Zen

For one of their field trips outside of Boot Camp and their first team challenge, the recruits had to make sushi for actual customers. After a demonstration by Anne and Bobby, the recruits were more excited about putting on their ninja outfits than about beginning the challenge at hand: mastering the art of rolling sushi.

Uncanny Resemblance

Before catering designer Betsey Johnson's surprise party, the recruits had to hit pinatas to get the candies they'd use for their dish inspirations. The day was filled with surprises, including balloons, but nothing compared to these lifelike pinatas, which Bobby was more than happy to pose next to for comparison.

Seafood Hysterics

One Main Dish challenge required the recruits to cook a surf and turf dish, and doing that meant they would need to kill lobsters. If seeing live lobsters crawling around wasn't alarming enough, seeing Bobby and Anne demonstrate killing and cooking the crustaceans was sure to turn into nightmares beyond the kitchen.

Clever Coordination

Bobby never could get over the fact that Amber had some of the longest fingernails. He got a kick seeing her come up with different ways to deal with them during challenges. In this case, kitchen gloves come in handy to help Amber mash plum tomatoes for the tomato sauce for her chicken Parmesan, which she's making for her daughter.

Striking Likeness

Anne plays a joke on Jamie and confronts him with a wacky citrus fruit called a Buddha's hand, which not only bears a resemblance to a hand but to her hairdo as well. But Jamie would rather go with a more-common citrus fruit, like grapefruit, for his parfait dessert in the final challenge.

The Only Thing to Quit Boot Camp

The recruits weren't the only ones to take a beating in Boot Camp. During the prep before the final challenge, Bobby demonstrated to Amber how to sear the bison for her entree and then how to finish cooking it in the oven. Unfortunately, the oven gave out before Boot Camp came to an end.
