Food Network Diversity/Core Values

Diversity Statement

Through our products and services, our people and our community involvement, Scripps Networks aims to convey the rich and varied fabric of American society by reflecting a multiplicity of backgrounds, experiences and living situations.

Diversity strengthens our programming and communities

Scripps Networks endorses the value and benefits of diversity in both our network programming and our workforce. We affirm the dignity of all individuals and regard equal employment opportunity as good business practice. We ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability or on any other basis that would be in violation of any applicable federal, state or local law.

Now in its 10th year of operation, Scripps Networks daily attempts to honor its core values, the foundation of the company:

  • Diversity
  • Compassion/Support
  • Openness
  • Clarity in Communication
  • Shared Responsibility
  • Humor
  • Integrity
  • Work/Life Balances

We understand that our stable of national cable television networks appeals to a wide range of viewers. That's why we strive for an employee base that's equally diverse -- behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera on HGTV, Food Network, DIY and Fine Living. Our entire cast of coworkers, in Knoxville and New York, Los Angeles and Detroit, Chicago and Atlanta, reflects this philosophy.
Scripps Networks actively recruits minorities, veterans and people with physical challenges. We foster an open, welcoming corporate culture where dedicated professionals from all backgrounds work together to produce the finest lifestyle-oriented programs on TV.

Scripps Networks offers employees a wide range of benefits: medical and dental insurance, including domestic-partner benefits, long-term care insurance, short-term and long-term disability, employee and dependent life insurance, flexible spending accounts, flexible summer hours, maternity/new baby benefits, adoption assistance, employee tuition assistance, employee assistance program and much more.

Encouraging diversity through community initiatives

The company's emphasis on diversity shows in our outreach to the communities where we work and live as well. From coast to coast, Scripps Networks supports various professional, educational and civic organizations, among them the Walter Kaitz Foundation in San Francisco, the cable industry's diversity network of job-market resources; Hampton University in Virginia, which opened its doors in the 1800s to educate young African-American students; Women in Cable and Telecommunications, headquarters in Washington, D.C.; and the National Association of Minorities in Communications, a trade association whose mission is to educate, advocate and empower for the cause of diversity in the telecommunications industry. Through the Cable and Telecommunications Human Resources Association, Scripps Networks remains abreast of the latest diversity initiatives as well as compensation review and benefits enhancement methods.

"By committing to long-term partnerships with these and other organizations, Human Resources and the management of Scripps Networks provide a culture that invites creative, enthusiastic applicants from all walks of life to join us," says Julie Cookson, Vice President of Human Resources.
