Molly Yeh rose to fame after founding the wildly popular food and lifestyle blog My Name Is Yeh. After garnering national attention, from podcast appearances to partnerships, Molly is currently hosting her 15th season of Girl Meets Farm and recently released her fourth cookbook, Sweet Farm.

History and Background

Molly grew up in Glenview, Illinois, a suburb about an hour outside of Chicago. Her father was a professional musician and her social worker mother was also an ardent baker, meaning her house was filled with music and food from a very early age.

Following in her dad’s footsteps, Molly studied percussion and eventually moved to New York City to pursue her musical education at the renowned Juilliard School. It was during her time there that Molly really began to dig into the food scene, documenting her culinary adventures on her blog, MyNameIsYeh.com. “After my snare drum lessons, I would just take all my work study money, go downtown and buy a Minetta Tavern Black Label Burger, just to get to know the restaurant scene in New York. It was also around that time that blogs started becoming more popular, and I've always kept a diary. My blog was a very natural transition for me,” Molly told "The Splendid Table" in an interview from 2016.

After graduating in 2011 with a bachelor’s in percussion, Molly took occasional percussion gigs but eventually made the decision to pursue her love of food and food writing over a professional music career and dedicated herself full time to her blog. The blog, known for its eye-catching photography, went on to be named Saveur’s 2015 Food Blog of the Year and caught the attention of brands, book publishers and producers. Molly was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in 2017, was a Glamour Woman of the Year in Food in 2019 and received an honorary doctorate from the University of North Dakota in 2022.

Family Life

Molly and her husband, Nick Hagen, were both music students at Juilliard, though they didn't start dating until after they both graduated, reconnecting at a party in New York City hosted by fellow Juilliard students. In 2013, Molly and Nick moved to Minnesota so that Nick, a fifth-generation farmer, could take over his family’s sugar beet and wheat farm business. They were married on the farm in December 2014.

In March 2019, Molly and Nick welcomed their daughter, Bernadette (Bernie) Rosemary, who is also the namesake of their brick-and-mortar restaurant, Bernie’s, located in downtown Grand Forks, Minnesota. Their second daughter, Ira Dorothy, was born in February 2022.

Molly's Shows

Molly debuted on the Food Network in 2018. Her show, Girl Meets Farm, is filmed in her home kitchen in Minnesota, with its 15th season premiering in April 2025. She has also hosted Ben & Jerry’s: Clash of the Cones and Spring Baking Championship.

In 2019, Molly earned an Emmy nomination and a James Beard Foundation award nomination for Outstanding Culinary Host for Girl Meets Farm.

Girl Meets Farm

Each episode of Girl Meets Farm showcases Molly's recipes “inspired by my Jewish and Asian roots and my Midwestern surroundings, as well as adventures near and far,” according to her website. She typically prepares three courses that are both innovative and approachable, using ingredients that are easy to find for any home cook. Molly’s cheerful and down-to-earth disposition is definitely the secret ingredient.

Bernie’s, named after Molly and husband Nick's firstborn daughter, Bernadette, opened in 2022 in East Grand Forks, right on the North Dakota border. Bernie’s serves up dishes filled with “Scandinavian flavor and church cookbook recipes that are all you want to eat during its long snowy winters and short hot summers,” according to the website. Their cafe menu is served all day, and they offer a rotating selection of baked goods, including fresh bread featuring wheat milled from the Hagen family farm. The cafe also houses a market with takeaway frozen dishes, pantry items and Bernie’s merch, which is also available online.

Fun Facts About Molly

Molly's Cookbooks

Molly is the author of four cookbooks that are filled with funny anecdotes about her unexpected journey from Juilliard to her life as an author, cook and wife living on a farm. She shares recipes inspired by her multicultural upbringing as a half-Chinese/half-Jewish Midwesterner, resulting in innovative flavor combinations like Za’atar Monkey Bread and Saffron Cardamom Tiramisu. Her cookbook Molly on the Range was named one of the New York Times’ top fall cookbooks of 2016 and one of NPR’s best books of the year. Her follow-up book, Home Is Where the Eggs Are, was a New York Times best-seller.

Her latest release, Sweet Farm, is a desserts-only cookbook dedicated to her love of all things sugar, as well as an explainer on the origins of her husband’s fifth-generation sugar beet farm where they live. It was published by William Morrow in March 2025.

Molly's Partnerships

Molly has collaborated with numerous brands and organizations to share her favorite flavors and causes close to her heart. In early 2025, Molly teamed up with Ziploc on a campaign to help minimize food waste. The campaign included a limited-edition freezer-friendly cookbook that quickly sold out.

Molly has also partnered with several food brands such as Ground Up, a peanut- and dairy-free line of butters, as well as Made Good, another allergy-friendly brand, to bring awareness (and great flavors!) to the public about food allergies.

She's even collaborated with brands to mark the release of several of her cookbooks. When Home Is Where the Eggs Are was published in 2022, Molly partnered with East Fork Pottery to create a curated line of rainbow-colored kitchen bowls and even commissioned a custom egg pendant by Elisa Soloman that is still available for sale on their website. When her latest cookbook, Sweet Farm, was released, Molly teamed up with New York-based Breads Bakery to sell a limited release of her Black Sesame Babka through Goldbelly.

Molly also has a line of vegan, high-quality spiced sprinkles with spice company Burlap & Barrel.
