Food Network & Barneys: A Foodie Holiday

By: Tanya Edwards

Last night, Barneys New York kept the doors open late to celebrate the unveiling of their annual holiday windows.  Barneys creative director Simon Doonan and team created delicious displays overflowing with inspiration from foodie culture.

Window themes included caricatures of many Food Network favorites, including Mario Batali and Bobby Flay in the the "Bad Boys" window.  Rachael Ray, Paula Deen and Sandra Lee were rendered larger than life in the "Gals" window.  A vibrant "Revolutionary Stew" window displayed Julia Child and Jamie Oliver.

As the party moved past the windows inside the first floor of Barneys, the crowd showed the first celebratory signs of the holiday season. Champagne floated through the room, and guests buzzed about sightings of celebrity culinary icons. Georgia peach Paula Deen smiled among the high-end handbags and graciously posed for pictures with  fans.   Bobby Flay stood near the front entrance with his wife, chatting with Cooking for Real's  Sunny Anderson,  fans and the fashion crowd.

Chefs Marcus Samuelsson, Art Smith, Melissa d’Arabian, Mario Batali also joined the festivities, alongside Food Network's newest sweets sensation,  Anne Thornton. No Reservations host Anthony Bourdain towered above the masses, while famed food critic Gael Greene delighted on-lookers with a fabulous sparkling hat, and Just Desserts host Gail Simmons chatted near the Champagne bar.

It wasn’t just the pouring rain that kept the crowd from wanting to head home on a Tuesday evening. Who would want to step out of a room where you have the chance of bumping in Donatella Arpaia—looking every bit the culinary goddess in a glittering golden gown—at any moment?

To end the evening, Simon Doonan jumped up on a display and gathered the crowd to acknowledge the work of his Barneys team and give a warm nod of appreciation to Food Network, Cooking Channel and illycaffè for their partnership in kicking off the holiday season.
