Camp-Food Delivery Service Aims to Enhance Your Adventures

S’mores are all very well and good (and when done precisely to your taste, well, very good), but a new app and website — Fireside Provisions — takes camp food to the next level.
Click through and you can have healthy, high-end-sounding camp food — scones with “natural jams,” Starbucks coffee, maple mustard pork chops and spicy chili-baked yams, and yes, “gourmet s’mores” (not to mention essentials like organic sunscreen and soap, natural toothpaste and biodegradable toilet paper) — delivered right to your door in advance of your camping trip.
The packages include recipes and ingredients, with menus customized for either backpacking, car camping or a cabin stay. Prices seem pretty reasonable: An Overnighter package, which features a full day of meals — your choice of breakfast, trail provisions for two snacks and dinner — is $15 per person. (To cut down on earth-unfriendly packing materials and prevent spoilage, meat and perishable veggies are not included.)
Menu offerings tailored for skiers and pop-up shops near national parks may be in the company’s future, so people can grab their box of high-end grub on the spot and go. But mostly, founder Kip Clifton told Outside online, the company just wants to make camping with your friends and family easier and tastier.
“You really can only eat so much freeze-dried food,” Clifton said. Indeed.
