Some Guy Legally Changed His Name to 'Bacon Double Cheeseburger'
Changing your name to “Bacon Double Cheeseburger” might not sound kosher to everyone, but to a U.K. man formerly known as Sam Smith, who legally adopted the moniker in tribute to his favorite food, it apparently sounded like an absolutely delicious idea.
Smith, er … Cheeseburger, who is 33, lives in the London area and works, perhaps appropriately, as a “gas consultant,” applied for an official name change after — you probably won’t be shocked to learn — a night of drinking with his buddies.
“It was the culmination of probably too many drinks in the pub where there was a conversation about names,” he explained to the London Evening Standard. “Bacon Double Cheeseburger was pretty much the first thing that came up. Everyone loves bacon don’t they?”
As it happened, it was after another night at the pub with his pals a few weeks later that the official papers arrived; Smith signed, to his friends’ delight. (He says they’re “quite supportive of anything that makes me look silly.”) And he’s gleefully been signing documents and emails with his new name — “B.D. Cheeseburger” — ever since.
Cheeseburger told the Evening Standard he had “no regrets” and has enjoyed spreading laughter. Yet while he says his father thinks his new name is “hilarious” and uses it, his mom is less amused. And his fiancee? Doesn’t sound like she’s much of a fast-food fan.
Because she’s “fairly reluctant about marrying a Cheeseburger,” he told the paper, he’s considering changing his name again (back to Smith? To something else?) prior to their nuptials.
“No girl ever dreams of spending her big day marrying a man called Bacon,” he said.
Except maybe Sir Francis’ wife, of course. Or Kyra Sedgwick.
