Starbucks Will Open a Roastery in NYC in 2018

We’ve got big news, friends! Though it seems like super-popular beverage purveyor Starbucks comes out with something new and exciting every other week, this announcement is absolutely huge. Starbucks will open a brand-new Roastery location on the East Coast, right smack in the middle of New York City’s trendy Meatpacking District.

Modeled after the original Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room in Seattle, the 20,000-square-foot NYC spot, slated to launch at 61 Ninth Avenue, will showcase the roasting process and ensure that “customers are immersed in the craft of roasting and brewing the finest small lot coffees from around the world,” according to a recent company press release. The release also noted that this location will offer the hard-to-get line of rare coffees sold under the Starbucks Reserve label as well, so East Coast devotees will finally have the chance to taste these varieties, now available only at the Seattle Roastery.

We’re sure it won’t look exactly like the Seattle location, which is pictured above, but the NYC version of the first-of-its-kind roastery/retail space/tasting room will have to be pretty special. Though it’s bound to resemble the Northwest original that inspired it in one way or another, the company is indicating that there will be some bold, fresh updates to this roastery’s design to make sure it suits its new home.

The building will be designed by architect Rafael Vinoly, who has also recently completed some pretty huge projects, like the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Millennium Science Complex at Pennsylvania State University. So you know Starbucks’ new space is going to stand out for all the right reasons.

The only downside? Though plans are officially in the works, the company won’t actually open the new location until 2018, so New Yorkers and visitors alike will have to wait quite a while to line up for this one-of-a-kind coffee experience. Sigh …
