For $25,000, You Can Dig Into This 'Game of Thrones' Cake

However you marked the launch of the seventh season of “Game of Thrones,” it probably wasn’t with an enormous edible homage to Peter Dinklage’s character, Tyrion Lannister, seated — quite comfortably, it appears — on the Iron Throne.
One “Game of Thrones” fan, whose favorite character is Tyrion, apparently did though. He commissioned Broadway Bakery, Dubai-based purveyor of “custom cakes for any occasion,” to create a gigantic cake to serve more than a hundred guests at a “Game of Thrones”-themed party. So, to meet the exacting standards of the private client, the bakery created used luxury ingredients to create what it says is the “World’s Most Expensive $25,000 Cake” — which might prompt one to ask “Aren’t all $25,000 equally expensive?” if that weren’t missing the point.
The point? The incredibly meticulous detailing on this thing. Measuring four feet tall (only five inches shorter than Dinklage himself), the cake, made of sugar fondant and sugar paste, is “a majestic tribute to the legendary Tyrion Lannister — the rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms,” the bakery trumpeted on Instagram, where it has also posted a video of the cake’s construction, which took two expert cake artists, 18 chefs, half a dozen iterations and more than three weeks to perfect..
The hand-carved and delicately layered fondant has been brushed with edible food coloring, as well as 28 grams of edible gold. It also features “15kgs of the finest Belgian chocolate,” a bakery spokesperson told FN Dish. Underneath it all is a sponge cake that can be customized to the customer’s liking, which is good, given that said customer will be shelling out 25 large.
“Our team didn’t miss any of the small details either,” the bakery boasts. “Tyrion’s holding a flask of his favorite guilty pleasure, and we’ve dressed him up in his distinctive red jacket with intricate gold artwork. Each component of the model has been crafted and painted to give the model a picture perfect finish. ”
Weighing in at 32 Kgs (just shy of 71 lbs.), the cake was able to serve 120 people.
Want one? The hitch — aside from the cost and the fact that the bakery may not exactly be close by to wherever you happen to be — is that Broadway Bakery requires three or four weeks advance notice to prepare this cake. And yes, they deliver to internationally.
So something to keep in mind for the season finale then.
