Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios Are Coming Your Way
General Mills expects the new cereal to make a major splash.

If you haven’t been paying too much attention to the world of breakfast cereals, you may think of Cheerios as being kind of a one-trick pony: wholesome toddler finger food or basic oaty-O’s to pour in your breakfast bowl(io).
In fact, there’s a whole host of different sorts of Cheerios available: Fruity Cheerios, Chocolate Cheerios, Very Berry Cheerios, Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, just to name a few. Cheerios has even gotten in on the limited-time-only flavor trend, with seasonal Strawberry Cheerios and, yes, Pumpkin Spice Cheerios. (That last one, featured in our pumpkin spice product roundup, is described on the Cheerios website as “It’s fall in a box!”)
General Mills, the makers of Cheerios, currently offers 15 Cheerios flavors in all, and the company recently announced that it is set to launch a new one in October: Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios.
Clearly, this ain’t your grandpa’s stroller snack.
In comments reported by the Star Tribune, General Mills Chief Executive Jeff Harmening said Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios are “the biggest launch” the company has had “in quite some time.”
Chocolate and peanut butter cereals combined account for about $500 million in annual sales nationwide and are continuing to grow in popularity, Harmening noted, saying Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios were bound to generate excitement.
“Consumers love chocolate and peanut butter flavor cereals,” he added, according to bakeryandsnacks.com.
As if he had to tell us that.
