This Colorful Starbucks Drink Will Blow Your Mind

The Unicorn Frappuccino may have competition over the strangest-Starbucks-drink crown.

The infamous, available-only-briefly Unicorn Frappuccino of 2017 may finally be getting some competition for its claim to the strangest-Starbucks-drink crown: Check out the coffee giant’s just-launched Butterfly Pea Lemonade Cold Brew.

What is it? Well, it’s an iced drink featuring butterfly pea flower tea “layered with refreshing lemonade and topped with deliciously smooth Starbucks Cold Brew coffee,” according to a Starbucks press release.

Sounds straightforward enough, but here’s the thing: The bottom layer of the ombre butterfly pea flower tea is a vivid, “mesmerizing hue of blue” that has “color-changing properties,” Starbucks says, and when it interacts with the lemonade, it forms “captivating swirls.”

The intense blue dynamic drink has been compared to a lava lamp and a mood ring, its look “almost galaxy-like.” One Instagrammer described the Butterfly Pea Lemonade Cold Brew’s flavor as “very extraordinary.”

Alas, if you’re stuck stateside, you won’t be able to try it yourself. That’s because Butterfly Pea Lemonade Cold Brew is available only in 11 Asian markets, where, Starbucks says, the drink’s essential butterfly pea flower tea is a “trending ingredient” – and only “for a limited time, while supplies last.”

Here just long enough to blow our minds, I guess.
