You Can Get Free Bacon from McDonald's for Exactly 1 Hour Next Week
The fast-food chain will give away free bacon for one hour — 'Bacon Hour' — on January 29 to celebrate its new menu commitment to bacon.
Should we file this one under “bacon goes with everything,” “proof the bacon trend has jumped the shark,” or “fast food promotional stunts that make you go ‘huh?!’”?
We’ll leave it to you to decide, but here’s the news: McDonald’s has just announced something it’s calling “Bacon Hour.” For one hour (4 to 5 p.m., local time) on one day (Tuesday, January 29), McDonald’s will give customers free bacon (two Applewood-smoked half pieces) on the side with anything they order on the menu.
“Bacon with an order of Hotcakes? Go for it. Bacon with a Hot-Fudge Sundae? Have at it. Bacon with a Filet-O-Fish? Sure! That's right,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said in an emailed announcement.
The deal, which is good at “participating restaurants nationwide” (aka most locations in the contiguous U.S., but not in Alaska, Hawaii or U.S. territories), is being launched in celebration of the fact that you can now, for a limited time, order bacon on a McDonald’s Big Mac, Quarter Pounder or Cheesy Fries.
“I love bacon. America loves bacon,” Michael Haracz, McDonald’s manager of culinary innovation, said in a release. “I really can’t wait to see the crazy and daring combinations our customers put together.”
Bacon and a Baked Apple Pie, a McFlurry and bacon …the sky is the limit.
Also the limit: one side of bacon per person with any order. So there’s that.
