In my house, the holiday season doesn't officially begin until the cookie press hits the sheet pan. When I was growing up, we had an electric model that even in the 90's was likely already a decade old — but that was part of the fun. The clunky sound of the cookie suctioning to the pan as the press lifted away is one of those tones that will bring me back to my childhood in an instant. That and the taste of the cookies, of course — I like mine crisp, buttery and toeing the line of salty. We'd sprinkle them in red and green sanding sugar that would pile into the crevices of the tree, wreath and star shapes.

I can't wait to make them this year, and you can kick off the holiday season on this adorable note too. On Sunday December 1 at 3 p.m. EST, cook along with Food Network Kitchen culinary producer Vivian Chan as she makes Butter Spritz Cookies LIVE — we'll be unlocking this class on the Food Network Kitchen app so you can join in the fun for free! Buy your ingredients ahead of time so you can whip up the dough and practice your pressing technique with Vivian — she'll help you along by answering your questions right in the app!

And once you've made the cookies, stick around to watch a few other on-demand classes we're offering up free this month: Amanda Freitag's Shrimp Cocktail, Carla Hall's Banana Pudding, Marc Murphy's S'mores Cookies, Valerie Bertinelli's Baked Brie and Ina Garten's Filet of Beef with Horseradish Sauce. Holiday dinner? Done!

Get the Food Network Kitchen App here tune in on 12/1 at 3 p.m. EST to cook LIVE with Vivian! Can't make it? Catch the class on-demand in the app after it's ended.
