Not everyone avoids carbs when it comes to naming their pets, it turns out.

Pet names are a window, if not to our very souls, then certainly to our current cultural moment. And in 2019, people were really into naming their dogs and cats after comfort foods, sweet treats and baked goods. That’s one of the revelations from a look at the most popular pet names of 2019, based on a data set of more than one million pets across the United States, by pet-sitter and dog-walker network Rover.com.
“From boozy brunch to natural noshing, food trends are serious pet name inspiration this year,” Rover noted in a blog post, adding that carb names were definitely trending.
Among the most popular non-keto friendly names of the year were Cake, Croissant, Brioche, Waffles, Cupcake and Pancakes. (So sweet!)
Cat owners were really into coffee, too. With Mocha, Kona, Latte, Coffee, Cappuccino, Espresso and Macchiato among the most popular cat names.
And while the year’s most popular food-and-drink-inspired names for dogs and for cats were not exactly the same, there was a lot of crossover.
