Meredith Vieira Has Reused the Same Disposable Cutlery for Decades
And if she invites you to a kids birthday party, beware of the paper plates.
Dedicated reduce-reuse-recyclers, you now have a new (recycled-paper) poster person: Meredith Vieira. The veteran TV journalist says she has been using the same “disposable” silverware for two decades.
“You know what I do — and my friends think it’s kind of disgusting — but I have plasticware that goes back probably 20 years because I just wash it,” Vieira revealed this week on the “Today” show, during a discussion about green efforts in honor of Earth Day. “I don’t want to throw it away because I feel, ‘Where’s it going?’”
Probably a lot of us who are mindful of the environment and/or our pocketbooks reuse plastic silverware — but Vieira’s subsequent recycling revelation was truly next level: She also cleans and reuses … paper plates.
“Don’t judge me. Do not judge me!” she begged co-host Jenna Bush Hager and Dylan Dreyer.
Unless they are “disgusting” — soaked through with gravy or something — she wipes the paper plates off and reuses them “for kids parties, because who cares?”
Hmmm … maybe the kids?
“I guess no one’s coming for a picnic at my house, right?” Vieira said.
Yeah, I guess not!
