Care to Bid on a Giant Strip of Bacon and Massive Fried Eggs?
Start clearing space: The eggs alone measure 10 feet long by 5 feet wide.

Redecorating your living room and looking for something a little … different? Perhaps you’d be interested in a giant piece of bacon that resembles a chaise lounge and a set of sunny-side-up eggs you could use in place of a rug, as wall decor or just to add some visual sizzle? (One writer has cleverly suggested trying to pass it off as a Jeff Koons original.)
Both of those whopping food items are up for auction following the decommissioning of an indoor child’s play area at a Grand Rapids, Michigan, mall that featured oversized faux breakfast foods also including a waffle, a banana, sausage links and a bowl of shredded wheat. While those other items were donated to a local church, local NBC affiliate WOOD-TVreports, the bacon (measuring 5 feet long and 2 1/2 feet wide) and eggs (10 feet long and 5 feet wide) will go to the highest bidder in an online auction that ends at 8 p.m. EDT on September 15, 2019.
All the proceeds from the auction will be donated to a local organization addressing childhood hunger, Kids’ Food Basket.
“A beloved attraction at Woodland Mall for over 20 years, the Bacon & Eggs are a priceless piece of Grand Rapids history,” asserts the auction page, where the items’ combined retail value is listed at $1,200 and bidding has already reached $1,000. “We hope to see these play features continue making new memories with families in a new location.”
Shipping is available, but comments on the mall’s Facebook page indicate considerable interest in keeping the items local.
“The children’s museum should buy it!” suggested one woman, in a comment liked by 20 others.
“Rather see the Grand Rapids Public Museum or Grand Rapids Children's Museum get this part of Grand Rapids history. Would allow for people to still see the history of Grand Rapids,” another weighed in. That comment was liked by five people.
Others dreamed of installing the massive bacon and eggs in their backyards or sandboxes – or made heartfelt personal pleas.
“my bday is Sunday,” wrote one hopeful Facebooker. “This is all I want.”
Anyone want to make this woman’s wish come true?
