Soon We All May Be Drinking Wendy’s Frosty-ccinos for Breakfast
The fast-food chain is taking its breakfast menu nationwide, and fans are excited.
A Frosty for breakfast? Why not?
Wendy’s announced plans this week to take its breakfast menu, currently available in about 300 locations, nationwide to all of its approximately 5,800 U.S. locations next year. One of the items on the new breakfast menu is a Frosty-ccino -- a cross between a Frosty milkshake and a cold-brew coffee. You can order the iced coffee drink in either vanilla or chocolate flavor, which definitely sounds like a reason to get out of bed, drag yourself to the car and cruise (bleary-eyed and messy-headed) to the Wendy’s drive-thru.
Other items with which fast-food-loving early birds can reward themselves are a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit (a piece of fried chicken sandwiched between two hunks of buttermilk biscuit and slathered with whipped honey butter) and Wendy’s Breakfast Baconator (a stacked sandwich featuring an egg, a sausage patty, six slices of Applewood smoked bacon, two slices of American cheese and some hollandaise sauce … on a bun).
Wendy’s – which has thrice before, over the years, tested or launched breakfast menus, only to abandon them -- said it will support the 2020 expansion with a $20 million investment and the hiring of 20,000 additional workers.
"Launching breakfast in our U.S. restaurants nationwide provides incredible growth opportunities," Wendy’s CEO Todd Penegor said in an announcement. "We believe we have the right team and structure in place, and we put Wendy's fan favorites on our breakfast menu to set us apart from the competition."
Wendy’s fans do seem pleased, judging from the response on social media.
“Not gonna lie- I’m pretty excited about @Wendys starting breakfast nationwide next year,” tweeted one appreciative fellow. “Fingers crossed for a Spicy chicken biscuit. I don’t care if that’s all they ever have- I’ll be there.”
The move for a breakfast meal of spicy chicken on a biscuit was seconded by another enthusiastic eater and tweeter, who wrote, “If @Wendys can turn that spicy chicken sandwich into a breakfast biscuit, I'll be there day one.#WendysBreakfast.”
