TikTok’s Latest Obsession: 5-Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookies
And you probably already have all five ingredients in your kitchen.
Let’s be real: Is there anything more comforting than a chocolate chip cookie? Anyone with a sweet tooth knows that breaking into the melty center of this soul-warming treat can cure even the worst days.
The only downside to the beloved chocolate chip cookie is the inevitably messy kitchen that comes with whipping up a dozen (or two). To get that rich, chocolatey payoff, you have to pull out the stand mixer, precisely measure out every single ingredient and try not to get flour, well, just about everywhere. If only there was an easy way to get your chocolate chip cookie fix without dirtying up your baking station.
Oh wait… there is.
TikTok — which also popularized the gloriously creamy South Korean dalgona coffee trend — is currently obsessed with these easy chocolate chip cookies, and the best part is that they only call for five ingredients: light brown sugar, smooth peanut butter, baking soda, chocolate chips and an egg.
TikTok user @everydaychiffon created the trend, and in her tutorial she simply combines her ingredients in a bowl by hand, divides the dough into twelve on a baking sheet and pops the sheet into the oven for 8 to 12 minutes. The resulting cookies look soft and chewy, but more importantly, her kitchen looks pretty dang clean.
Since then, hundreds of TikTokers have shared their own attempts at these gooey sweets, and some users have added their own twists, such as swapping the chocolate chips for M&M's and using crunchy rather than smooth peanut butter.
Even Chelsey White (a.k.a. @chelsweets) gave the five-ingredient cookies a go. After pulling her fluffy treats out of the oven, the cake baker topped these chocolate chip beauties with a pinch of sea salt, and according to her caption, “they live up to the hype.”
So, there you have it: Mess-free and mouth-watering chocolate chip cookies that can be made in a flash. Once again, thank you TikTok.
