Move over pumpkin spice, there’s a new spice mix in town. Food editor and author Samantha Seneviratne whipped up these unique Apple Spice Cookies, exclusively for the FNK app, in honor of a delicious-looking apple pie spice-infused cookie creation made on the show Christmas Cookie Challenge.
The basic dough for these cookies comes together in minutes. Flour, baking soda and salt are blended with a tablespoon of apple pie spice which contains cinnamon, nutmeg and all-spice. Then, melted butter and brown sugar are creamed together with a quarter of a cup of maple syrup to really drive home the fall flavors and add a hint of smokiness. Drooling yet?
What makes these cookies truly unique is the slice of fresh apple that is placed on the top of each dough ball and dusted with gold sanding sugar. In the oven the slice turns soft and sweet in the middle and crunchy on the top from the carmelized sugar. And if the golden caramelized apple doens't look stunning enough, the cutout of the apple core creates a gorgeous star shape right in the center of your cookie. Samantha recommends picking the most beautiful slices for your cookies.
Now they just have to bottle the scent of these cookies baking in your kitchen!
