When it comes to grocery shopping, everyone has a strategy, whether it's to get in and get out as fast as you can, or to stick to the list no matter what and not veer off. Guy Fieri, host of Guy's Grocery Games, says that his important tip is shopping together. And that not only applies to himself and his family on an individual level, but it's also advice for the families competing in Guy's Grocery Games: Family Style, airing Sundays in January at 8|7c.
Guy is proud to say he personally loves grocery shopping, but when it comes to shopping with the family, he has "really strict rules," especially in a big-box store. Find out what he says in his interview with FN Dish about the show's family competition.
"One of the rules that's in this show is a rule particularly made for me," says Guy, "and that is, Don't walk away from the cart." It's actually a strategy that viewers will see in play in the four-episode family battles. As Guy explains, in his personal experience, "We'll be pushing the cart in the store, and then I'll take off, and then my kids will take off … and everybody will come back to the cart with arms full of stuff that was never on the list." That's the result of a family divided, but what happens when everyone sticks together? Things get done, according to Guy. " So a family that stays together shops together," he points out. "That's really the truth."
When asked what's his best piece of strategic advice for the families competing on the show, Guy says, " Rely on your family telekinesis." In such a fast-paced show, everyone has to be of one mind, as he explains: "It's 30 minutes to shop, prepare and plate whatever dish is asked of them [the families] and with whatever hurdles they've got to get over. If you're unified as a family, now is the time to play through with it."
