The Ultimate Sugar Rush: Best Desserts in America, Courtesy of Top 5 Restaurants – Vote for Your Favorite

There’s just something about dessert that makes life so much more meaningful. The genius minds behind Food Network’s Top 5 Restaurants agree. This past week, hosts Sunny Anderson and Geoffrey Zakarian revealed the best places to visit when you’re in need of something sweet.
One glance at the head-turning Meaning of Life Cake from Chicago’s Gibsons Steakhouse and Bar and you’ll know the restaurant's steak isn’t the only thing worth traveling to Chi-Town for. Weighing a total of 40 pounds, this creation is piled high with five layers of chocolate mousse, raspberry preserves and ripe bananas.
Louisiana’s Hansen’s Sno-Bliz is known for its unique snowball creations, which are so delicious that customers line up around the block to get their hands on them. Creamy and refreshing, its Bananas Foster Snowball features a vanilla custard syrup and a layer of brown-sugar caramelized banana slices.
Next comes the Tahitian Vanilla Sugar Salted Caramel Apple Pie from Portland, Ore.’s Random Order Coffeehouse and Bakery. The secret trick behind this pie is its tart and sweet apple center, which is made from partially peeled Granny Smith and Pink Lady apples.
Minneapolis’ own Surly Brewing Company provides the Furious Ale that acts as the secret ingredient inside Salty Tart Bakery’s Surly Cake. The beer’s inclusion not only makes the cake’s chocolate layers super moist, but also infuses the cake with hints of citrus and toffee, making it even more delectable.
Piled high with three pounds of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice creams, and then topped with fresh pineapple and strawberry chunks, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a cherry, the Banana Special from Oakland, Calif.’s Fentons Creamery trumps all other frozen creations, making it the perfect dessert for Top 5 Restaurants’ No. 1 spot.
