This Is Cicely Tyson's Secret for Looking Great at Any Age
You won't believe how many push-ups she does daily!
What an interesting couple of weeks it has been for Cicely Tyson.
First the startlingly substantial, essentially own-zip-code-requiring hat she wore to Aretha Franklin’s funeral went viral.
"Cicely Tyson’s hat needs its own Twitter," tweeted one hat observer.
And now word has arrived that the 93-year-old grande dame of stage and screen is set to receive an honorary Oscar at the Academy’s Governors Awards ceremony on November 18. In so doing, she will become the first black woman to receive an honorary Oscar, People reports, although the actress was nominated for an Academy Award for her lead role in "Sounder" in 1972. She has also collected a Tony, three Emmys and a Presidential Medal of Freedom (in 2016), among numerous other accolades, over the years.
The recent focus on Tyson’s nonagenarian fabulousness – "Queen doesn’t feel like a full enough word for the majesty and living legacy of #CicelyTyson. I mean, she is every goal, every dream, everything. xo," director Ava DuVernay gushed on Twitter, in the midst of the hat moment – may have many of us wondering: How does she do it?
Well, for one thing, Tyson swears by a vegan diet. And for another, she stays in shape, including, at least as of a few years back, doing 60 push-ups every morning.
"If I’m gonna be here for a long time," Tyson has said, "I want to be well."
Words to live (long) by, for sure.
