Star Kitchen: Jasmine Roth
The HGTV star designed her California space with family in mind.

Jasmine Roth is known for her inventive storage hacks like kitchen islands with secret doors and wine racks made from wood scraps, but when the HGTV star built her own kitchen, her needs were much simpler: She wanted a space that connected easily to the outside (she lives in Huntington Beach, where she can enjoy the outdoors year-round), and she needed plenty of room for prep and cleanup. She and her husband Brett both like to cook, and now they have a toddler in the mix: their 19-month-old daughter, Hazel. The kitchen sees a lot of activity, so to keep order, Jasmine installed two big sinks (making cleanup twice as fast) and durable surfaces like a stainless-steel backsplash for her Viking range. “It lets us cook without worrying about staining some specialty tile,” she says. She also designed a big pantry where she can hide all the clutter. Jasmine admits she gets excited when she’s menu-planning, and this pantry can handle whatever she brings back from the store. “We’re the kind of people who never cook the same recipe twice,” she says. Read on for more of her design ideas.
Food Warmer: Jasmine added a stainless-steel shelf under the vent hood with warming lights that keep finished dishes toasty. It comes in handy when she and Brett are trying to prep breakfast and get Hazel ready for the day.
Strong Marble: The perimeter counters are marble cured with a UV light treatment to keep them from staining. “You have all of the beauty of marble but with a protective finish,” Jasmine says.
Double Sinks: Jasmine found her main sink at an architectural salvage yard and it’s plenty big, but she added a second sink to the island and it has been a total game-changer. “Now my husband and I can both do dishes at the same time!” she says.
Split Island: Because the island is so large (5 1/2 feet by 10 feet), Jasmine wanted to break it up visually. She chose black granite for the work space and oak for the dining section.

Heated Floor: This space connects to the outdoor kitchen and pool area, so Jasmine chose flooring that would stand up to splashes, pets and everything else — and she heated it for the cooler winter months. She says the large-format porcelain tile is basically indestructible!
